New ORA Picassos

Does anyone know what they feed them over at ORA? I have had a new pair in QT now for 2 days and they aren't at all interested in formula 1, rod's reef, mysis, baby brine, or cyclopeeze. They don't even seem to notice when I feed.

Thoughts?

ORA Glow. http://www.orafarm.com/oraglo.html
Your LFS may carry it.

Most likely they are just stressed out from shipping and the new home. Hopefully they will start eating soon. I usually leave a little food on the bottom of the tank for about 24 hours at a time when I have new clowns that are not eating. They normally start eating when the get comfortable.

Try some frozen brine. Mine would not eat for the first few days either. I got them started with frozen brine then switched to crushed oraglo, dried cyclopeeze and crushed flake. Put some garlic drops in the mixed dried food and finally got them eating. I am not sure what they feed them at ORA. You would think they feed oraglo but all their clowns are yellow as heck when they ship them. If they were feeding oraglo initially, I would think the clowns would have better(orange) coloration. I suspect it is not cost effective to feed their commercial operation with oraglo.

yeah they're nice looking but all they are doing is huddling together, kinda sitting on a rock in QT. They almost look like they're sleeping all day. That kinda back and forth movement they do when they are sleeping.

Yes. Unfortunately the LFS will mix them in the same water with wild caught fish. Exposing them to the same diseases and parasites as any other fish you may get.

So I tried live brine. No luck. LFS doesn't have oraglow. I think they're trying to starve themselves to death.

So I talked to Laura over at ORA. Very nice lady. She told me they feed a combination of Hikari Marine S and Oraglow. She also suggested metronidazole as they had white stringy stools. I tried the antibiotic and the new food and they ate in a couple of hours. They seem better now and I am wondering how long I have to give them the metronidazole before I can introduce them to the main tank.

thanks,

I've got a pair of ORA picassos, they're a year old now. I feed mine Hikari frozen brine shrimp and they also eat Omega One flake fooed with garlic. They also eat some mysis when I feed my blue spot jawfish. I've tried Rod's Food, but they only sniff at it.

these are creepy fish. Right now they are sleeping in their QT, one on one rock and the other on another. They are lying on their sides on the rocks not moving. I can't resist waking them up periodically to see if they are still alive. Very creepy.

Does anyone know how long to metronidazole for?

So after a couple of weeks of metranidazole, I put them in the DT. They hung around for about 5 days and then suddenly POW!! They're hosting the RBTA. So once again, tank raised fish do host. I did nothing to convince them, and they had no fish to learn from. They really seem to go nuts for it and hardly ever leave it.

I had the same problem with my new ORA picasso's. They didn't arrive very healthy from ORA and had the same long white string problem. They both finally ate after 5 days and have since been doing well. They've been eating spectrum A+ for the past couple days. Glad to hear yours are doing fine too.

Both of the ORA Grade A's died at my LFS in less than a week after receiving them. They had been waiting for about 6 months to get in a pair of grade A's.

that's really sad. I think mine would have died without the meds. I'm really glad I talked to ORA about what to do.

My fish have been eating, but thier parasitic infection has gotten alot worse. I too talked to Laura at Ora, and was given the same medication recomendation. She was very courteous and helpful over the phone. I'm going to set up a QT tank for the pair, but they really don't look good.
