New Peacock Mantis!

I Just Picked up a new peacock mantis from my lfs and for now i put him in my minibow 7 till his 50 gallon is ready. What i would like to know is what are the chances that he could break the tank. He is about 2 1/2 to 3 inches. He does not seem to be aggressive at this point.I have heard of them breahing tanks, but just want to be sure that he wont break this one right away till i can get him to his new home. Thanks for any info.

havent kept one myself...but they are known to break glass tanks

At 3 inches you are probably safe. Are you sure it is an O. scyllarus? That is a bit small to find one for sale.

I would have to guess that it would depend on what species the mantis is. There are two types: the spearers and the smashers. The smashers probably pose the most concern as they literally "pound" what they are after (i.e. live rock, clickin noises at night and demolished fish/inverts). Spearers go after mostly fish and along with the smashers can strike prey a 10m/sec. Almost the equivlant velocity of a .22 calibre bullet!
