New Peacock question...

hi guys just got a new peacock mantis shrimp..i have a couple questions...first off..would it be okay to put the mantis shrimp with coral...such as the one's from platnum reefs? And another thing what do i feed the guy..i have some squid... what else can i feed this guy...no i don't want to feed him live food... Thanks.

you can feed a varity diet including krill, scallops, clams, muscles ect

mine loves scallops, and krill, but also really really really really LOVES cute little live fiddler crabs. I think some live food is important or else they may rip off their raptorial appendages...

no...i don't want him to rip off his raptorial appendages...then he won't be so bad ***.... darn...okay well i just got him i will feed him clam for a while then like ever once in a while i will give him a fidler crap? Does that sound good?

here is a pic.. What species is it? How big will it grow ect... It is like a dark lime green with orange legs... i thought it was a peacock but it isn't? any idea guys?
I know it is a smasher..

if it has orange legs it might be a wennerae like the one I just got. My peacock loves fiddler crabs, while my wennerea has taken an interest in snails, and emerald crabs, as well as frozen krill and scallops. I am going to try to feed some live gut-packed ghost shrimp.

I do not feed them live foods all the time, but on occasion for a Treat! I just got the wennerea, and his tank i just put him in already had snails, Emerald crabs, hermits, and a firefish... I heard him whacking away this morning!!

hm...he looks like the boris except he has green eyes mabey he isn't full developed...plus i got him from petsmart and i dont think they where feeding him very well

thats crazy that petsmart carries mantis shrimp!! Use Roy's list to ID it more specifically. It is extremely detailed and helpful!

thnx for all the helpful comments..yea i know it was so funny i was like holly crap is that a mantis shrimp..then again they did have a natulis..which i didn't approve cause it was in a 10 gallon holding tank, but anway..i had to tell the guy what was in there and what it could do to his finger...it was so funny they got like 5 people to help and catch it because the first guy was like forget it i don't get paid enought for this... LOL anyway i just bought some frozen flat pack of clam and he ate it up thanks guys for all the information it really helped.

Corals are fine if they are mounted on large rock so the mantis doesn't use it in building a burrow, otherwise if it's a frag on some small rocks expect it to be moved around.
