Nice looking fish, great looking tank. Wow, a 14 year old tank, it really does look great.
Thank you.
The tank was never drained for 14 years the yellow tang is that old it was the first fish in the tank . I'm ready for a new tank soon ;)

Ok they are knowing to be .....amphipion ocellaris ...aka ...common clown ...aka.. percula clown..
There has been debate on whether there is a similar, but distinct species called A. percula .
In fact, this is a very colour-variable fish as you see and the two fish are very probable one and the same species but they are cool.:smokin: :smokin: :p

Unless your a marine biologist with a recent huge discovery there is no question there are two seperate species. A. ocellaris & A. percula. If there is ever a question about what you have just count the dorsal spines for a positive id.:D

I hope you do realizae that theses fish will soon begin to pair off & harass or kill each other eventually.

So, I'm looking at Zoom's picture of his nice percula clownfish and then I read down a bit further where people are telling him its an ocellaris. I went back to the picture and looked again - I can count NINE dorsal spines, so unless it has some spines I can't see, its a perc.

the one in the close up picture is Percula i would say, the ones in the first pics looked to be ocellaris.

The black and white ocellaris in the pics that started the thread are ocellaris. For that matter, the orange ones look like false percs too. The ten year old one might be a true percula.

As stated by others, the only ones that are positively identifiable are the Black and White ocellaris.

Orange and white specimens in the first pictures are not shown clearly enough for a proper ID, don't waste your time :)

Even the Old specimen should have a more clear picture before folks seriously debate it. Flash could easy obscure the eye ring and the lack of focus/detail can easily hide the smaller spines.

It also seems one or two folks might not know there are actually two distinct species of clowns involved in the discussion:

A. ocellaris: http://www.nhm.ku.edu/inverts/ebooks/ch2.html#ocell
A. percula
http://www.nhm.ku.edu/inverts/ebooks/ch2.html#percu

I really don't care what they are , they are nice fish that is why i got them nice clean colors and disease free i had many orange ones before they are very docile, they are not like the killer Maroon clowns
They are in a 7'x2'x2' tank i never had any lets call them Nemos :o kill each other in this big of a tank yet , but you never know .
Is going to be six Nemos in this tank total four black and two orange, i think i'm going to keep the big one separate .

They are definitely very nice looking clownfish. Yeah, ocellaris and percs do tend to have a much nicer dispostion compared to those aggressive, but beautiful, maroons. And the 14 year old tank looks very healthy and pretty. Keep it up.

Update:
After three weeks i put the big ocellaris clown with the babies is now been three days with them no aggression at all from the big boy the babies will fallow him around the tank....they are so cute.
Here is some pictures i took tonight.

False perc AKA Ocellaris can have 8-9 dorsal spines.
True Perc can have 9-10 spines.

9 spines is in no way an incication of what kind of clown this is.

The important part is the owner of this fish does not care what kind it is, he's happy with his fish.

I agree with you. IMO if it is so difficult to tell the difference, who cares! They are beautiful fish no matter their name.
