Hi all!
Im Merriq

Im back if you remeber- Thats was my old tank http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1422752
where I started my journey with azox corals

And now I show you my new 5months project ;)
Im very happy becouse all my corals wich I remove from my old tank are survive
I think all its getting fine :)

I had very small knowlage to share it.But now its getting change.
If I had time I spend hour by hour for observation corals. And I read a lot of them.
Recently I saw spawning tubastrea and It is marvellous to see new larvae settle on the rock.
It used to anything like an eel to skinning but my diodogoria and swiftia growth!!

Hello and it is nice to see you here!
Keeping such gorgeous tank for such time means you can share a lot ;)

1. For example, can you post pictures of unusual non-photosynthetic corals, each with its name shown, for Eunicella verrucosa (white), Acabaria, Ctenocella pectinata, Rhizotrochus, which dendronephthya is which (group of species name), Lemnalia sp., Scleronephthya gracillimum (can you describe difference between scleronephthya species, dark area, I know), 5x Scleronephthya, Umbellulifera (difference from scleronephthya in appearance and keeping), 3x chili coral (all the same or different)? With observations and tips on keeping will be ideal. I would highly appreciate this.
Maybe even how to make scleronephthya and swiftia grow.

2. Also, can you post pictures of the flow devices positioning and system setup (sump)? It will be very helpful for many of us.

- Do you use any mechanical filtration before skimmer?
- Means to control phosphates, nitrates, red slime (cyanobacteria or dinoflagellates), transparent bacterial sludge accumulation?
- Total flow in the system: tank volume per hour (for example, 40x tank vol/hr), including passing through filtration (10x tanl vol/hr?).
- In areas of what kind of flow are particular groups of corals located?

3. Feeding and maintenance.
- What amount you feeding, how frequently?
- Are you using continuous feeding devices (details will be particularly good to see)?
- Feeding sun corals, positioned on the rock should lead to decomposing food, lost between the rock branches. How do you solve this problem?
- Do you keep the food in water column for prolonged time by particular pattern of flow?
- How do you fight with what was settle on the rock and under the rock?
- Ways to control aiptasia?

Did you try to keep Christmas tree rock (Spirobranchus worms), flame scallops, filter feeding sea cucumbers, tube anemones?

You see, at least I am deeply interested.

I'm just getting into non-photo corals and would love to know as well. Your tank is immaculate. How do you do it?

Thank for nice posts:)

@dendro982
OMG.. you killed my, its so many question.:)
but I try to answer.. sorry for mistake in my language:(

1) More photos of my corals: recovery and grow of them I share with you later, please wait.

2)
-My only mechanical filtration is wadding before the returned pomp.
- phosphates, nitrates I controle using ZEOvit system.
I dont have any cyanobacteria or dinoflagellates invasion.
- Total flow in my sytem is about 38x tank vol/hr
- dondronepthya are in strong flow, gorgonia are in medium, curent flow and tubastreas are in medium flow.

3) Usually I feed twice a day but when I have more time I feed 5-6 time a day at small amount. Its hard to explain how amount I feed daily.
- I dont use any feeding device yet but I going to use kalkmixer for that.
- I have a lot animals which feed that missing food:) for example dragonets, seastars, shrimps.
- "Do you keep the food in water column for prolonged time by particular pattern of flow?" - sorry I dont understand ;/
- I clean it when I change the water.
- GroTech AipEX

I dont want to keep all animals which you specify.

Yep I see that, best regard:)

My apologies, Merriq. If you posted by yourself how to keep tank in such excellent shape, in addition to pictures, I wouldn't ask all of this ;)

BTW, your English is good, don't be shy...
But my English could be a problem. "Do you keep the food in water column for prolonged time by particular pattern of flow?" Rephrasing:

Some advices on keeping non-photosynthetic corals included tip try to keep food from settling on the bottom. Then food is floating around corals and is available for a feeding. For more, than 5-7 min.

How to do that:
1) continuous feeding device (or prolonged feeding device), adding food at short intervals of time,
2) using high flow and wavemaker,
3) if 1 or 2 are not possible, then place few powerheads to create direction of flow that will keep food suspended.
Examples:
3a) rotating flow, from left to the right - as in washing machine. Food accumulates on the bottom in the middle of the cube or cylindrical tank. Short burst from the powerhead, pointing there, will make this food float again.
3b) few powerheads are pointed down, facing bottom. Same effect.
3c) in the corner of the tank, creating of the the twister-like flow around few corals is possible.
3d) add what you know :)

Please, don't feel that I'm pushing you into keeping animals, you don't want to keep. I'm just looking for other reefers, that keep them, to learn more.

Thank you for the information!

Amazing tank

Amazing tank

I completelly speechless you seem to be able to keep most of the corals that we are all told to avoid (and beautifully). I wish you write a book on deep water corals and sponges husbandry.

Stunning!!! Keep up the good work, Merriq, and please post updates whenever you can!!
