I'm not sure how to grade clownfish. These are ORA Picasso's I got from the LFS tonight. They had a great deal on 3 so I got 3. The one that doesn't pair I'll probably give away or sell. First clowns in 3 years! Tell me what you think! THey aren't tiny, but still small at about an inch and a half

Grade B is great! I was hoping they would at least be a B. Plus they still got time to develop the last stripe.

What determines a clownfish's grade?

I was wondering that too. I believe grade C is mis bar to thick white lines. B is more jigsaw like with more interesting patterns with the middle white bar not connecting to the 1st or 3rd line. Even if they connect on one side they are still only B grade.

And then Grade A is where the middle bar connects to the 1st or 3rd bar on both sides of the fish. Read up on a few posts last night.

As long as you dont feel ripped off for what you pay for. Those are really slick looking grade b's

This is info from a well known picasso web site, and her method of grading.

Grade A

A's have additional white with one of the three stripes connecting on BOTH sides of the fish.
The black color will develop as they mature and the 3rd stripe area near the tail may also continue to develop and spread.

Grade B's have either no stripes connected OR possibly ONE side that has connected stripes (unlike A's that must have stripes connected on both sides) The black color will develop as they mature and the 3rd stripe area near the tail may also continue to develop and spread.

Grade C's are normal striped and misbar clowns. They are from the same breeding pair of A. perculas as the grade A's, B's and Snowcassos. These will develop the black color as they mature as well as their third stripe.

Snowcassos have an incredible amount of white. With the majority of their body being covered with white they are amazing fish and very rare. There are very few of these per hatch. The black color will develop as they mature. The white may continue to spread as they mature.

They actually are not from Doni- they are from the LFS selling ORA. I usually don't care much for the picasso but these I thought had awesome markings. I was thinking about purchasing some of Doni's though . . .

That source is unreliable for grading scale. ORA the leading industry leader has a good grading scale.

I am on same page with Illidan on grading scales,, I personally don't really look at the scale to much A,B,C its all alphabet soup. Bottom line is, if you like the markings' then buy it..

I was more curious than anything... I'm with you trademark, its a clownfish if it looks cool then get it.

How long can they stay together before I have to separate them? I really don't want to wake up to a dead clown. During the day they literally stick together and pretty much look like a large moving orange mass. However, last night I noticed that the larger two were sleeping side my side, versus the smaller one was in the other corner of the tank by himself. Is this enough to say that they have paired up? I have not seen the normal darting around the tank and shaking dance yet.

I was refering to the grading scale.

The 3rd one should stay gender neutral so shouldn't be a problem. Unless you see fighting it shouldn't be a problem. I believe, but don't qutoe me.

How big is the tank they're going into?
