new pics of the garden

Hi Seapug,
How are things this week with your zoanthids?
Also, I've been meaning to ask, what are the small zoanthid colony on the bottom left of your fts photo? They're the smaller zoa polyps which have dark skirts and bright pink centers.
I would like to know more about those zoas in particular because they were quite literally the first thing to catch my eye on this forum, and hence are responsible for reeling me into this reefkeeping hobby I'll have you know. ;)
What is your experience with them, how they are kept, and what is their temperament as opposed to the other lovely zoanthids that you maintain?
Thanks much.

Things are cruising along quite well. Thanks for asking. And thanks again to everyone else for the compliments.
IridescentLily, the Zoas you are referring to disappeared about a couple weeks after taking the photo. I'm not sure if they were victims of the shriveling zoa disease or were simply swallowed up by the others. I don't know what they were called but they were some of my favorites, too. If I ever come across another colony I want to get them re-established.

Hey seapug, could you answer some questions i think we would all like to know?

What brand of salt do you use?

Could you take some pictures of the sump?

Do you use any macro algae in it?

And anything else you see pertinent. Thanks

Oh no. I'm sorry Seapug. You've had them for quite some time haven't you.

After I posted my reply earlier I went and took a closer look. They are still there, just getting overgrown. I ought to pull them out where they can get some breathing room! :p

nanocubenothing, I use ReefCrystals. I've tried regular IO a few times but always get a strange crust on the surface of my mixing reservoir. I don't know why. I'll try to get some pics of the sump, but it's nothing worth showing off. In fact, it sucks. I made a huge mistake when I set up the tank and got a stand divided into three separate compartments so the sump could only be 18" wide. I had to have one custom built to fit the space. It's nothing fancy, really just a simple cube. It's crammed full with the input, an AquaEuro USA 135 skimmer, a crappy used return pump, two Phosban Reactors (one for carbon, the other for Phosban), a heater and couple rocks. I recently installed a JBJ ATO which I love. Not having to do manual topoffs is awesome. Maybe someday when my wife isn't looking I'll set up a larger external sump next to the tank.

"Honey, it's not another tank, it's the filter, and it's always been there." :D

My corals come from various LFS here in the north Denver metro area. There's actually some surprisingly good stores around here.

so did you used to have a skimmer on the back side of your tank next to the return lines? I thought i saw one there somewhere. Denver huh? Im in the durango area, and we dont have anything good. So online really is the only way to go for me. I also recently just bought an ATO and i love it almost as much as my corals do. Yea pics would be great, event though you dont like your sump it obviously is working out for you.

I did use a HOB seaclone skimmer for a while. Contrary to what you hear about them, it actually worked quite well, but I hated having junk hanging off the tank. I'll try to get some pics of the sump posted this weekend.

Can you take a full frontal tank shot for us, while you have your camera out?
Pretty please? :)
