Hello,
I want to start a very small proping business, I would be selling everything here in the club and on diffrent clubs and reefcentral and a bunch of diffrent forums, and I was woundering if anyone does or did this, I would want to sell SPS LPS & softies in frag packs. Would this be a good business, what do you think, please share ideas.

talk with Saltwaterdaddy, he can give you some helpful hints. he has numerious tanks for propagation, and sells wholesale.
IMO, just enjoy the hobby, make a few bucks when the corals grow out, which in turn can help with the electrical bill and any impulsive coral purchases.
 
So does that mean we are no longer welcome. It meant that we were no longer attending meetings. Sorry for the confusion.

Lets get back on topic, salty would like some advice........
 
Who is going to take care of the business when your at college, because i can promise you this that you won't be able to run it in a college dorm room, just not enough space and your roomate would kill you.

Second of all i hope your not planning your life around it and hope that you don't stay close to home just because of it because that limits your potental

not being a dick but arent you only 13? Running a business takes A LOT more then just interest. Most people who try ot do things like this have gone to college for business and such.
 
I'm 14 and no im not planning my life around this, I just wanted to do something I like and make money with it. I have a diffrent job and will be getting another soon.
 
Okay, you have to plan orders, budget, plan a potential income, divide up sums of cash up to invest in the different parts. Set aside money for making orders from companies like ORA. Figure out what price we need to charge for corals to make sure we can afford running the equipment, paying for each piece of coral, and running the website.......LMK if I am missing anything...........

It is not going to be that big just for the reason J8851 stated. We will be off to collage in about 4 and a half years. So we will have to opportunity to hopefully get something nice going for a while, and we are going to be 14 when it is up and running. Salty is 14 and I turn 14 in May.
 
why not wait until after college and your feet are on the ground somewhat and the massive student loans are getting paid off so you can set up a really nice frag tank, no reason to do it half A** if your going to be getting nice corals from ora and stuff
 
I am not planning on selling on companies nor a website, I want it simple, sps, LPS & softie frag pack, to RC members, and diffrent froums.
 
I suggest doing what everyone else in the club does. Although it seems like it may be a good idea now, you need to pay for everything initially i know when i was 14/13 i didnt have the money to "start my own business". you can still make decent money but most people arent in thi for the money. If you get to the point of trying to become a store you will be competing with all the big LFS around and that probably wouldnt be much of a "match"
 
Unless youre going to to it on a huge scale, I highly doubt you will could turn a profit considering the cost of electricity... just do the math. But then again, if your parents are paying the bills...
 
I think some are interpreting this as something bigger than it really is. I think that I may even have done so................

Right, this is not a HUGE business, it's just for fun, and something to do over the summer, but if it would work I would keep doing it.
