New potters angel wont eat yet...

I ordered a beautiful potters angel and myster wrasse from DiversDen and got them on Tuesday.. The wrasse started eating the first day but so far, potters doesnt care for food. I'm not too concerned *yet* but I did have another potters from long ago that never ate (4 weeks) and eventually just died... (I did have two other potters that ate immediately in QT)...

Anyway, whats the best way entice him to eat? So far, tried frozen mysis, frozen brine shrimp, and some pellets. He seems pretty fat right now, and swims very strong. His coloration is the best I've seen of all the potter angels I've kept, and of all the ones I've seen at the stores.. Very bright colored so I really want to get this one successful!

How much live rock and sand? How mature is your tank...I have never had a problem get a Potters to eat in my 75 gal since the rock was 2+ years matured with a chaeto copepod breeding sump. Even if it takes a 4-6 weeks they can pick off the rock. Black worms, or brine have always gotten them interested in eating. Then when eating I mix in mysis, some sort of frozen, or flake and eventually they become greedy eaters. Done it twice so pretty confident...Good luck

Any chance you can get your hands on live brine shrimp? That's obviously not a great long-term food source, but I've had great success with it in terms of enticing a picky fish to eat.

Well, the tank is 6+ years old but its not in my DT. He's in a 20g QT. Part of the problem is he is so skittish that he hides in the PVC pipes when he sees me. Sometimes he comes out but very scared still.

I just got some Tiger-Pods and R.O.E. , see if that helps.. LFS told me to try those.

Potters angel can be tricky in a standard QT. I always put them into my invert QT that contains grazable live rocks. It helps to sustain the fish until it settles in enough to take frozen fare. Perhaps put a 'sacrificial' piece of rock into the QT. Nori is worth trying, though it is a mixed bag with dwarf Angels.

The tiger-pods and R.O.E. are completely ignored lol...

I'll try some Nori tomorrow... Though I have another potters and a regal angel that eat very well but have never cared for Nori.

Try selcon added to brine or mysis yet?

I was lucky in mine ate like a champ through Formalin/Prazi and 8 weeks in QT. Mine is an attention whore and takes just about any food-LRF, brine, mysis, PE mysis.

Also consider live black worms if you have a shop nearby that sells them, or you can get them overnight (don't know with the weekend). My potter's goes for the black worms pretty quick when I feed the LRF.

do you have a small rock from your tank that you can sacrifice for the sake of the micro algae and microfauna? Mine didn't take to prepared foods right away either, but, it would leave "kisses" in the algae film on the glass and peck at the rocks until it learned that flakes were good.

New potters angel wont eat yet...

Just saw video of bigz (I think) showing easyreef masstick. Looks great in theory. The potters can graze on it while I'm not in the room which would help him from hiding in the pvc with my presence.

Where do I get it online?

Thanks! I usually don't order from premiumaquatics because its very far from my area so shipping is slow... But just ordered, paid second day air.. gets here on Tuesday. Hope this works out :)

You just have to offer a WIDE variety of food. I just went thru the same thing with a potters. I offered live brine, rods, mysis,Doc's eco eggs ( which seemed to do the trick ),bottles of live pods, and cyclopeeze.

Now he eats anything I toss in there,NLS pellets and Rods is what I feed most though.

Good luck,they are beautiful fish.
