New predatory tank

I just finished converting my old oscar 55 gallon freshwater tank into a predatory tank.

I've tried with corals in my 24 gallon and have had no success (even with 211 watts of pc/mh lighting.

Right now, all that is in the tank....
2.5" undy trigger
5" snowflake eel
~15 snails/crabs (dont know how long that will last...)
a few random..dying corals

For filtration I have 35 pounds of live rock (from the old reef), AC 400gph pump, an AC 500 hob filter, and a filstar xp-2 canister.

Am I pretty much stocked out for this tank? Or can I add maybe one more fish to compliment the trigger? Is the Snowflake/trigger a bad combo?

Also...can triggers over-eat? My dad dropped an entire jumbo shrimp in the tank for him, and he ate nearly all of it...and was bloated beyond belief.

Thanks

budask8r, Not knowing all of what you were doing that you failed with corals, in your 55 I guess it is, the trigger will out grow this tank rather quick and professionally you should never place so young a juvenile moray with aggressive fish that this sf should have its own tank as well it too will later on be needing a little larger tank then a 55.

I know many people are keeping an SF all the time in a 55, you can do this too if you want, I can only give you my professional opinion on your question(s).

Triggers will never over eat for the more you feed it the quicker it will out grow your tank, and this not mean that you starve the trigger, you need to feed well each day if it will feed and not just throw tons of food at a time into the tank, a little food at a time and being that you that young SFE, you will find it that you have to target feed it and with the trigger in the tank, this will never be an easy thing to do.

The trigger is small yet, throw in few small pieces of chop shrimp, not the whole thing and wait before adding any more food.

Thanks for the help.

How long do you think I have before the trigger and/or snowflake outgrow the tank? I was told that undys top out at around 8" which sounded about right for a 55gallon...mistake on my part.

There is no trigger that I would place in a 55 and on top of it you a very young juvenile FE that shouldn't be in there with the trigger for your trigger will outgrow that tank long before the SFE.

Was it your LFS that told you it be OK?

No your triggers won't over eat but its better to feed small amounts a few times a day . I have a niger 4" a bursa, humu and undulated trigger3.5" As weell as a 4.5inch dog face puffer and a snow flake eel 14". I feed the triggers pellets in the morning and afternoon and then toss 1 chopped up shrimp and some krill in the tank at night . while the triggers are going after the krill the shrimp will settle to the bottom and the dog face and SFE will eat it . My snf has no problem taking food from the other fish and he will activly come out and hunt down the chopped shrimp .

But as buddy said . your undulated will out grow a 55 and your sfe is too small to be in there with him .
