New Product - Accela Pump Modifed for the Bakpak Skimmers

We picked up a new pump for the CPR Bakpak's this week. Stock is going to be here in 4 days.

This pump performs much better then the original RIO and the upgraded Maxijet. The Maxijets were a big quality improvement over there RIO pump, but MJ900 was a little underpowered for the Bakpak and MJ1200 was just a little too much flow.

This new Accela solves that problem. It's between the MJ900/1200 in power and they did a custom modification to install the venturi line which makes it a nice heavy duty pump.

I know it's not the most exciting NEWS of the day, but for customers needing to upgrade there bakpak, or need a small DIY RVT pump, it's a great option.

Figured I would do a little review on this pump.
The pump is very well built, heavy gauge plastic with a grounded plug like the old maxjets. The venturi is right in the area where the strainer would hook on it. It has a redesigned strainer that fits well. Comes with a air valve like the maxjet venturi, it screws in and out. I like the design of the Euro-Reef airline ball valve so I used it also during the test. Overall a very well built pump that I would recommend to anyone looking for a replacement.

Here is a list of performance based on my findings from worst to the best. All test were done on a BakPak skimmer.

4. Stock Maxjet
3. Stock Accela pump
2. Mesh Mod Maxjet 1200
1. Mesh Mod Accela pump

The maxjet creates more foam but even with the mesh mod there is alot of turbulance, therefore it does cut down on some foam head.
The accela mesh mod slows the water down just enough over the maxjet to make a good foam head.
A great pump, that I would love to try on the new octopus skimmer or equivalent. For the price it is worth it.

I replaced my mj1200 (with fishing line mod) with the accela and I found much more water flow through the skimmer and tons of microbubbles (I assume they will calm down after the new pump runs some more) I may try the fishing line mod as I would like a bit less flow through the skimmer.

Same here, with the standard impeller it speeds the flow up, but with the meshmod impeller it is sweet.
