new protien skimmer break in

I just got a new protein skimmer and I was wondering is there anything I need to do to the skimmer before I put it in my tank?

Rinse thouroughly with clean water. No soap.

just stick it in there. It will take a few days to get it to skim properly (that's the only break-in) You may have a chore getting it dialed in (depending on what brand) but nothing really needs to be done before putting it in use (aside from installing the pump and what not).

As small alien said, make sure you was it first with warm water. This helps get all the oils and dust off of it from when it was made.

what kind of protein skimmer is it? Are you running it in your sump?

It is a bubble magus. I am running it in sump.

I run vinegar water through mine for a couple hours. There are fine oils and such from manufacturing. They probably won't hurt anything but it may help your skimmer break in more quickly.
