we had one when I was a kid growing up on farm/ranch in South Texas. The ranchers in that area buy a pup and raise it on a sheep or goat. They grow up thinking that they are what ever raised them. Anything that messes with the goats or sheep had better be faster than the dog. They are very protective, but make great pets as well from what I have heard
