New respect for my camera

This is a REALLY funny story, it started with a Nudi just popping up out of nowhere on the front glass of my tank. I realized *why* it was out there, and after finding it's egg sack I wanted to get a closer look at it. I remembered a long time ago I ordered a few specialty tools from a little site and bought a Magnifying glass (the kind you hold over your eye or set on top of something.) So I found it and looked at the egg sack and thought... I wonder if I can put this on my camera's lens. It's a Pentax Optio 330, and not the most impressive camera in the world, as a matter of fact it ****es me off more than anything. But I snapped a few pics with the mag. on the lens and was quite impressed.

I still want a nice SLR, but I'm broke. hehehehe

Great idea and great pics. I've had those Nudi's in my tank before :( They eat Zooanthids.

Yeah, when you look at the pics full sized (I took them in a pretty high res.) you can see how amazing those eggs are. (Or were I should say.) :D

Sorry to take the thread off track -

Are those the zoanthid eating nudibranchs that people report?

Nice pic of the nudibranch

I have also tried this method with a loupe for viewing transparencies. The quality is better since they are more "flat field", however they are much more expensive too.

I am sure you have given some of the P&S people some inspiration though.

I have also experimented with a variety of "lenses"... including binoculars, magnifying glasses, loupes, etc. This thread just inspired me to try my new loupe I use for viewing negatives and slides. It has a removable base, so it can also be used for viewing transparencies. The only drawback is that I can only shoot what is on the glass with the very short focusing distance this lens allows. Here's a couple of shots I just did:

This is the full camera view...vignetted a little from the loupe...showing my glass which desperately needs cleaning! I noticed when taking this photo that it is not my sally lightfoot (which I just got 2 days ago) but a molt.

This definitely comes in handy for shots of snails on the glass!

It even has a ruler along one side for size!
