New ro unit and tds issues

Just don't understand why I can't get 0 TDS.

It seemed like you had enough comments in your other post so I didn't pile mine on too..
I can go back and read that again and make suggestions if you want but I thought you were waiting on new membrane/cartridge so I'll wait till after that and see if your results change..

Make sure you pack that DI stage TIGHT...You don't want water channeling past because it wasn't packed tight..

Yeh, I'm waiting for replacements. The manufacturer pointed out once I've installed the new ro membrane I should flush the unit for 1 hour because it contains a chemical, not sure how true this is but it didn't say that in the instructions.

I might try packing in a bit more resin. but I'm getting a reading of 21ppm before the resin which I getting told is high.

I have used a handled TDS metre for a second opinion against the inline one. The TDS came out at 3ppm on the handheld so I am confident I am getting an accurate reading.

Yes a 91% rejection rate is not good.
You should be getting 96% min typically..

But the DI stage (when new) should easily take that to zero if it was working properly..

Pack it TIGHT man.. Pack it up TIGHT..

When I refill my DI cartridge, I spend at least 10 minutes just picking it straight up a few inches and then dropping straight back down on the table. Keep adding resin until it just won't compress any more. Then do it for a few more minutes.

hth

I think I will get a small stick and jabb it down into the canister cartridge. I've added some Di resin and it got it down to it flickering between 1 and 2. I think the main problem is the ro membrane as the waters ppm is still 21 when passed through but said above the new resin should still be able to handle the remainder so there is a bit of work I need to do to pack it down and get it tight.

IMO a good multiple up/down table smacking to settle it like billdog said is better than a stick as far as compressing it goes..

Fill it a few inches (8-10cm for you).. Then a few up/down smacks.. Fill a bit more.. up/down smacks.... repeat as needed till its good and solid.
They usually do a good job giving you the proper amount in the packs.. Use it all and get it all in there..

New membrane in and di in. Packed as much as I can in. Is it not normal for the tds to start higher and then gradually reduce? Mine started as 10ppm TDS and has now dropped to 5, I hoping for it to fall more but we will see. I thought you would get 0ppm straight away?

It is normal for TDS to start high then come down pretty quick everytime you start the system. I have my apex setup to send the first five minutes of water down the drain then switch to filling my reservoirs just to help with this.

Run the new filters for an hour or so...at the end of that you should have zero tds
If not something is wrong..
Report back with incoming tds...post ro tds and post di tds

Ok will do. I just had the unit apart, checked all seals and vaselined them. Checked filters cartridges to make sure all was correct. Tightened canisters up. Now will run for an hour or so. It has dropped to 3ppm product out out so must of done something right when I stripped it down.

Is the 3 TDS after the DI or RO?
