New SA clowns

Got these clowns over the weekend. I believe they're either Fancy whites, or snow onyx. They're supposedly 2 years old. Have not spawned yet (for the previous owner).

The first one seems to have a little something on it's 'chin'. Was it missing that piece of it's tail before it went into your tank?

They look to young. Maybe the aspect ratio, but they look adolescent and not adult, so spawning may be a while away.

They do look pretty young, and one doesn't look very healthy.

Are you planning on raising the young from this pair when they begin spawning? If you want to breed I'd look into a different pair myself, they look a little bulldog faced to me.

The tail piece was bit off before it went in my tank.

I got these on saturday, and based on the pictures I was pointed out that the male has white spots. I came back from work today and saw that it does. So thats out of the tank and into a QT (have no idea what to do after that).

If the male makes it. They are not small. Pretty big. I think not having anything in comparison is throwing the ratio off. I didnt buy them to use them as a breeding pair. So i'm ok with them not being prime quality if and when they spawn.

I assume you're not planning to breed them? Meaning if they spawn you won't try to raise the clutch? The only reason I ask is because SA clowns tend to have blunt noses (as someone else mentioned) which is fine for enjoying in a tank, not so good to breed.

Yup. Not the primary reason for purchase.

These fish are great prospects for breeding

Abnormalities in the shape of the fish is due to the rearing protocol that deviates from optimum parameters.

Them being Snow Onyx means they're hybrid ocellaris/percula so a very varied gene pool. (yes hybrids are fertiles)

Good luck dealing with the spots, the sooner you start a treatment the better.

I've got both fish in a QT (5g tank for now). Since I got them saturday and have them out by tuesday, should I worry about getting all the fish out? None of my other fish have every shown signs.

I would treat all the fish, even if they are not showing signs you know that it is in the dt now and can come back at anytime. You may as well rid the tank of it completly now or just treating the clowns is kinda uselesa imo

+1 cryptocaryon irritans (ich) cysts can last dormant on the substrate up to 60 or 70 days. good luck I just fought the ich battle in my QT I'm still letting it sit fishless for 2 months to be sure their is none left.

Sad to say that the male is probably going to die today. I think the stress of moving him around too much got to him.

Female is looking in bad condition too and might not make it.

I got them saturday. The LFS got them on friday (1 day before). Moved the female to a bucket (with airstone + heat) on tuesday. Moved to a 5.5g tank with airstone, heater, filter on wednesday (using 5.5g water from the DT).

Too much movement and changes in the last 5 days for these guys.

Your tank now has ich. I would read the stickes and start treating.

These clowns are cross between Snowflakes Ocellaris and a Percula. Not a lot of black so unlikely the Percula parent is a Onyx. I am sorry that they are not doing well. Hope they will pull through for you.

The parents of the above fish are a C-quest Onyx(female) x Snowflake(male).
Having said that, the color of these fish is not typical of the strain. It could be that they need a little TLC (lots of healthy/diverse foods and quiet/clean tank) to recover their health.

I breed the exact cross. My Onyx was from Rod B which is the same as C Quest
