New Scooter Today...

Well i finally felt confident enough to get a scooter blenny. My pod populations are booming and my tanks been doing amazing for a few months now. Soon as i put him in my girlfriend decided to call him peppermint because he's "red and white and pretty" but I think ill call him peppy. Watched him eat frozens at the LFS so it's good to know i can feed him directly if need be. Any tips on him or behaviors i should be looking out for? I did the research, but it never hurts to have an experienced opinion.

I used to have one of the normal brown ones and he jumped out after about 3 years. I dont know if thats normal or not (probly not).

I have a red one now and he looks exactly like yours. Ive noticed that they pretty much take care of themselves and nobody ever bothers them. Make sure you either train him to go to a certain "feeding" spot or turn off your powerheads while feeding so the food gets down to him because everyone else will get all the food before him, although if your pod poulation is as good as it sounds you shouldnt have any problems.

Soon he will recognize you and come up to the glass and raise his fins and wiggle his body at you with his mouth open like he wants to fight you but I think thats his "happy dance". BUT Ive had a few friends lose some to carpet anemonies. So Dont get one if you plan on keeping him.

Thanks for the tips. Ya it's just a nano tank he's in and I plan on keeping it pretty peaceful with no anemones either. He's been eating fine and today when i checked, he's become alot braver, roaming around alot more.

I have a pair (which I bought separately). Very fun to watch the nightly courting/spawning dance, which they do like clockwork as soon as the T5s go out and the moonlights come on. He flashes his dorsal, and then they latch fins (it looks like they're holding hands) and do a little circular swimming dance until they almost reach the water's surface.

(Not that I'd recommend trying two of them in a nano. Although mine both eat frozen also, not just pods, which is nice.)

Sweet!!!! I was at a LFS over the weekend and they had 6-7 in a tank obviously starving to death. Made me mad. Plus the place was super empty and a waste of a drive. Awesome lil fish. It looks like a male??? If so look for that sweet fin!!! He eating frozen too yet? Keep it fed and you'll have a nice addition. Mine gets chased around constantly by the pseudochromis that owns the rocks.

Ya he eats frozen and even FLAKE...not to mention the pods scurrying around. Hes slowly taking over the tank left and right. His only competition is a bicolor blenny and a clown, and they all seem to get along fine. I can't find him at night though, he must have his own layer to hang in at night. And yes i have seen the very sweet fin on top.

you cant find him at night because he sleeps under the sand. Look very closely at the sand next time hes sleeping you just might be able to see his eyes popping out over the sand sometimes

look for these!!!!lol

look for these!!!!lol

heres mine, right in the front of the tank. Love the guy, eats from the turkey baster when I am feeding the corals.
