New setup with "pseudo substrate"

Yeah, the larger substrate would allow for detritus buildup for tanks without super high flow (my Tunze streams have to be turned down they are so strong), or those with sloppy tank-keeping habits...

I will be running the Zeovit system, which mandates 10% water changes per week, and I have this great gravel vacum, so I don't anticipate it being a problem... We shall see...

I'm also a firm believer in keeping primarily fish or corals, and not mixing them to a great degree like many hobbyests do... This tank may have one or two fish total, who are feed sparingly, cutting down a great deal on detritus...

G-Money: I had a fan blowing over me while doing this project, so the fumes weren't so bad at all... Also, a single coat never took me longer than 10 minutes at one time, and then I closed off the patio from the house. This really helped, too... Thanks again for the great idea.

Would it be reasonable to do this directly to the bottom of an acryllic tank? I was planning on BB but I like this better.

Because as I see it now on my Tenecor 150... The bracing keeps me from using big pieces and all the seams I think would not look so hot.. I would think it would work perfect just applying it right to the bottom of the tank.

I am so glad I found this. I am about to order my starboard from www.thecuttingboardfactory.com. The only problem I have is that I will need to install this material shortly after I get it. I am currently removing my sandbed and once I get it down to a small amount, I am taking everything out of the tank and I want to put in the starboard. If I do like you did and use pvc cement how long should I really wait? I guess I could put the sand on with cement and leave it in my garage for a few days but don't know.

Thanks for sharing I was going to do a resin type setup on the bottom of the tank but didn't like the idea of it being there forever. Thanks for the idea!

I think it looks fantastic. I know I am going BB on the new setup I am still kicking around ideas on how I am going to do it.

but I am with you I just can't see me going with a chunk of plastic .

did you have any problems this past year with cyano or any other nuisances adhering to the substrate?

Haven't had any cyano at all. There's been a patch or two of hair algae but nothing major at all. It was mostly due to not having enough snails in the tank... The substrate looks essentially like a continuation of the live rock as far as what grows on it.
