New Setup

I got some new try percs from Marcy at Sea In the City... They are doing great now. They even started messing around the anemonie. Pretty soon I am hoping that they will make it their home. I need to get some ricodia's, some LPS and if somebody could tell me what is in the image below I would really appreciate it. I must have those.

Yep, sun polyps. Can be in basically no light situations. They actually grow upside down in caves in the wild. The come in black, orange and pink base. The black ones have green/black polyps while the pink and orange based ones have the yellow polyps. The don't open during the day unless you train them to. They do need to get fed a meaty diet each day, but it's easy with the bottle trick.

Marcy couple questions.....

Fist how is the new place coming along, secondly when are you getting a web site....and lastly....what is the bottle trick....I wanted to get some sun polyps, but didnt want to risk killing them....also I cant wait to come back to the store....also how hard would it be for you to order a black saddle back clown for me.....

Big Bro sorry to hi-jack but shes special....:):bum:

Lol, okay here we go:

The new place is coming along fantastic. The new fish systems are up and running already and all the new coral tanks will be up this week. Huge compared to now...I want to cry each time I have to slip back into Mini-City now;) Opening all depends on how soon the tanks cycle as I want to let them cycle naturally with live rock and sand.

I have a website at www.seainthecity.com. The Sea Forum is a lot of fun to visit. I hope I don't get spanked for posting this here...I was asked:)

Sun polyps should be fed everyday. But, you can quickly escalate your phosphates/nitrates trying to get them fed. Here's what I do:
Cut the bottom off a water bottle that is large enough to fit over and around the sun coral. Just before lights out place the bottle over the sun coral and squirt some food into the spout. I like to make a mix of the following:
Piscine Energetics Freshwater Mysis Shrimp (very meaty)
1 drop of Garlic Extreme by Kent
1 small squirt of Zoe Marine by Kent
1 small shaving of Frozen Cyclopeez.

I like to let it sit in tank water for about 15 minutes to thaw and marinate...then take your turkey baster and squirt it near the top. It takes a few minutes for the polyps to open once they sense the food, so this way it will slowly float down, won't get blown away by the flow. You'll need less to get them more food. This food mix works great for the entire tank. I add Frozen Formula 2 and alternate it with Frozen Spirulina at three day of the F-2 to one day of the Spirulina. I feed the veggies first so all the herbivores get full on that and don't fill up on the meats. Here's a pic of Cyndi...who has to be about 4 years old or so... to prove what a great diet can do:

I have a black saddle clown, I think, right now. I'm home but I can check for you. You must promise he's going into a great tank though cause he's a favorite...great personality. He was going in my Nano, but then Waldo showed up and you know how that goes...sheesh. HTH, Marcye :)

Marcey, thanks for the info, I know DP will find it useful, and know I wont be scared to get them....:)

The clown will be going into a great tank....at least I think so you can click my red house to check out my progress, and if you dont think I am ready for him, just let me know. Do you know how old he is and large, as I already have one and dont want any fighting.....As far as livestock, Im moving pretty slow right now, but making equipment changes, and setup changes that will contribute to the overall stability. I havent had any catastrophic failures (knock on wood) but have had some minor set backs that where learning experiences. Anyway let me know about the clown, I will probably pick him up next weekend or this weekend....or had DP swing by and get em for me....

K...I'll check and make sure he is still there. He's probably about 6 months old. I had him in my desk nano, but counldn't keep him there anymore. I'll let you know. Marcye

OK Marcy. If you find me some that will open in the day and I don't have to feed them I will by them from you. Everything is looking great with the tank right now. Thank you for all the help so far.... You are such a sweetheart.

They will open in the day, if you train em.....thats what she said....but I guess you will not be getting em cause you will have to spot feed them......

Anyway...Marcey is a sweetheart....she is gonna help me find a new mate for my clown.....I may drive up there this weekend, probably Sunday...or wait till next weekend....

DP, when is the next time your coming down I have a list of stores we can check out here.....and need a partner to roll with me.

Well I have made quite a few addtions to the tank and have had some changes since the las post I made to this thread. I will post some updated pics sometime today but the major thing I need to do is some rearranging in the tank. I am still kind of disgusted with the current setup of my sump and the only suggesstion that I have been given is to empty the tank to put a new one in. I DON'T THINK SO!!!

I am still contemplating changing my skimmer to a Tunze DOC 9010. We will see how it goes though.

Im glad to see your stepping it up a notch....

Your sump isnt as bad as you think.....there is spac ein the return section to put the Tunze, but bear in mind you will need to elevate it. I think it will work well on your tank....

Take some detailed pics of your sump, maybe we can figure something out to get the most out of it. Personally, in my new sump I wish we would have put one or two more baffles, and added a media section, It might have been better to get another 20 gallon long and re-work it, but I like the new sump anyway.

Also take some pics of your behind the scenes work....the R/O system and the auto top off....

Nope... I don't have to elevate it or anything. I sits fine in there. The only problem I am having now is fighting to fix my rock the way I want it in the tank and keeping the damn clowns from biting me. I Accidentally damaged my anemonie last night but it seemed fine this morning. It was clinging to a piece of live rock and I tried to take the rock out and it tore a little. I am hoping it lives and splits but if it doesn't make it I think I will get a purple tip one. The best think would be if my wife let me setup a fish only tank with a smaller tank and just use the dame sump. I would move all my problem creatures to that tank.

Hold up, dont you have space in the garage, to setup a smaller tank? Explain a little how what you wanted to do.

I don't know what you talking bout man. I need another damn tank.

What do you mean.....where you gonna pu tthe new tank, what will it be for and what size? Next month I start my garage build. I am thinking a 55 long...with a 30 gallon fuge...want to do a full setup, that can run much like my current setup...BUT...plumb it into the other sump....linking the systems, and improving overall water quality, stability, and decreasing the probability of tank failure. It will probably take a year to complete as you know whats happening in August.
