New Shark & Ray tank

I took a picture of the Wabbegong today with the ruler. Barely grown a little more than an inch in the last 15 months......perfect since the LFS with the shark pond went by the wayside. The local zoo is finally getting a couple of aquariums that this guy might end up in some day.

Very cool, had one of those guys in a 750 at work, how active is yours? Ours was always really active
Not very active, it spends most of the time under the little cave. I did manage to take a couple of pictures while it was out.

What happened to the blue spot? I have been thinking about getting either a shark or ray for my reef tank. Would you recommend that after owning them for the past couple years?

Very cool, wobegongs are wicked fish!

We brought in a couple to an aquaculture facility I worked at where we bred sharks too... the pair went into a 3,500 gal pond with a trio of bonnet head sharks (Sphyrna tiburo). The next morning I returned to work to discover the pair of wobegongs had devoured two of the bonnetheads, and the third one was cowering in a corner... until then bonnetheads were the most "ferocious" shark I'd encountered in captivity.

Mind you the wobegongs were about half the size of the bonnetheads :eek1:

I'm interested if you still have any rays as well? They float my boat more than sharks...

That's a cool wobegong!

Do you feed it bonnet heads?!!! Just kidding, what do you feed this guy?

So whats in the 600? And why not make a bigger tank you obviously like these animals because you buy so many of them, but get them the right environment.

That is what I have been thinking as I read this post.

Right now, the shark has more than enough room in the tank. When time comes where it out grows the tank, it will be moved to a larger tank as was done with the Marbled cat shark. For as little as it has grown in the last 15 or so months, it may be a while before it is ready to be moved.

It's favorite is frozen krill, but it will eat frozen silversides if I cut them up for him. It wouldn't eat frozen clams or squid. (but the crabs liked them....)

Its ignorant because you assume the fish are unhappy. I just don't understand why positive comments couldn't be said rather than pointing out everything you think is unacceptable. Chuck is obviously not taking down his tank or removing the fish.

So yours is ignorant because you assume the fish is happy? Oh and your ignorant comment was so positive!

I was simply asking why he has a bigger tank and they aren't in that tank? and since he clearly likes these animals why not try and provide the best environment possible.

Its fine if you always have a better home lined up but didn't the last one go to a LFS and was then sold? IME LFS owners want something like a shark gone because it is expensive to feed and tanks a big tank. Now your LFS may be different just my experience. This was brought up earlier in talking about wholesalers.

And it was also brought about the size of the sand. Its looks a little rough to me in the pictures, and if I had that much invested in rays and sharks, why not just use the fine stuff. With all those shells and coarse sand I wouldn't risk it.

And back to the positive comment remark, its easy to say that looks great, but it is much more beneficial to try and help someone. Also whats wrong with asking a question? So what is in the 600?

To answer your questions, the bigger tanks contain fish that would be a meal for the shark.

The LFS did not sell the shark, instead, the store was purchased and moved to another state.

The sand in the tank is finer than you think or can tell from the pictures. here are a few belly shots of the shark and you can see that there aren't any cuts, scrapes, or scars after having lived in the tank for nearly 15 months.

I am not an expert on sharks ad rays, but I will try and answer any other questions you may have.
