its the 1000ls model with the bubble blaster pump same as 160xs diablo woke up this morning to some really nice foam just wondering if i have it set up right i adjusted the gate valve untill the water with air was at the max line idk if i was supposed to plug the air holes to get it to the line or not. will tinker with it more after work

looks great

looks great

better get a drain line hooked up!

somebody that knows this brand of skimmer please chime in here:
we all know to start the water level LOW inside a new skimmer but WHY is the max recommended water line level marked SO LOW on that skimmer?

why start it low on a new skimmer. i washed it out with dawn dish soap to get rid of all the oils from the factory. it started skimming almost imediately. and a nother thing i noticed is other people that have owned these skimmers say they start out really loud i would have to say this thing is really silent

the manufacturer recommended that?

Start low on new skimmers or just after cleaning them or during ANY change whatsoever (water changes included) so the skimmer doesn't overflow.
Work water level up after things are settled.

no wasnt recommended i just figured dawn broke down oils so i did it and it seemed to work was making foam right off the bat. will set it low when i get home from work hopefully it hasnt done anything major while im here

to ease your mind.... level looks low in those pix... and if it overflows it appears that it will safely overflow into your sump

BTW... your sump level looks high. Do you have enough capacity to hold ALL the water when power goes out?

sump level is about 9 inches when power goes out yes just barely lol. what should the level in the skimmer look like normally there is two lines a minimum on the body and a max on the neck ive got it set to the max line on the neck

In my understanding, the depth has to do with pump demand. A little deeper, not much of an issue performance-wise. But if you set it for a certain depth and the water level goes up, it will creat more pressure on the OUT pipe and cause the skimmer to overflow. If you keep an eye on it, you should be very happy with it. I'll second starting the level inside the skimmer on the low side. Titrate up as it breaks in and a nice biofilm settles in.

my XRO3000 has similar lines. the lines are for the "bubbly water", not the foam head. I run mine near the low line and it does fantastic. If I ran near max the skimmer would flood in no time. That bubble blaster pump s pretty impressive.

for breakin I would personally run near low for a week or two and keep adjusting to the low line. once it settles you can go above it a little bit as you see fit.

have you checked what the recommended water level is on that skimmer? a lot of the reef octopus are really low - 6-7 inches low. you might need to prop the skimmer up a bit.

the skimmer is actually propped up from the factory becouse the pump is below the skimmer its the space saver one. im going to back it down lower tonight when i get home from work i had it at the max setting for the last twelve hours and it skimmed but nothing in the cup yet just a ton in the neck and stuck to the top

i have a asm g2 protein skimmer and cant get the water level right seems like its not getting enough air bubbles. anyone know the correct water level for this skimmer?
