new solar fairy wrasse disappeared

i just got a solar fairy wrasse. he's in a 45 gallon rimless tank with not TOO much rockwork. i have a mesh top over it so he shouldn't jump out.

after an hour of seeing him, i don't see him anywhere. pretty sure he's hiding, as i don't see him on my floor or anything.

my question is, do solar wrasses dig into the sand and hide like some other wrasses do?

No, they will hide in the rock work, but to sleep they create a mucous cocoon. What size holes does your mesh top have? You need 1/4 inch holes not egg crate.

they are small holes on the mesh top. my rocks are marco rock, very pourous. so maybe he found a good hole.

is hiding normal for his first day? any idea how long it takes him to become less shy?

it is not uncommon for fairy wrasses to hide the frist few days when they are in the new tank...has it ate yet?..and what other fish do you have in the tank?..sometimes other fish will bully the newcomer and cause it to hide..that is why socailly acclimating new fairys is something imo that is very important to try to do

no bullying. i have a small tiny maroon clown, and a black blenny. that's it.

as i just got him yesterday night, and he has been hiding, he has not eaten anything yet.

when i walked downstairs this morning (only blue lights on in tank), i saw the wrasse. but then when he saw me he disappeared again! well, at least i know he's alive.

give it a couple more days..it sounds like it is just not acclimated to the new tank yet..i think it should be fine
