New Start-Tank Full of SPS

this is me

My best effort of keeping SPS thus far. Converting my anemones tank back to full blown SPS a couple months back. Going all out with SPS with this system. I like to see them grow so mostly 1-2" frags. :lolspin:Some of these frags has been in the tank for about a month. Initial loss of color but I can see it coming back.
I will keep this thread updated on the growth of these frags. I have about 20 more frags coming next week. Not sure where to glue them to but I will find a clean spot on the rock somewhere.

System Info:
Elos System 70((29.5x22.44x19.7 55 gallons). 15 gallon sump with Ehiem 1262 return
SWC Mini cone skimmer
BRS ROX carbon
BRS high capacity GFO
BRS bio pellets
Pacific Sun Black Python XM LED
2x Tunze 6055
GHL 4 Doser(ALK, CA, MAG, ATO)
GHL Profilux IIIex

Water Parameters:
Temps:78.3F
PH:8.0-8.2
Conductivity:53mS
NO3:undectable
PO4:0.01-0.02ppm
ALK:7.5-8.0dKH
CA:420ppm
MAG:1500ppm
Potassium:420ppm

Not sure what this is but it's the fastest grower by far and coloring up pretty nicely. My favorite since it shows my hard work in keeping the parameters stable.

Pearl Berry. One of my favorite SPS.

Yellow Tort. Love the blue polyps at the tip. It glows!

Blue Tenius. More brown than initially received.

Strawberry Shortcake. I know I know, looks very ugly right now. Was able to get a frag of a wild colony in my lfs. The wild colony at the lfs is not doing any better if not worse. I have faith in this frag. :)

My sad red planet. Color starting to come back at the base.

Forgot what this is called. Very bright colors.

I know I shouldn't have picked this mariculture colony up but the price was too good and looks healthy. I'm anticipate it to go brown but hopefully will color up.

nice work. FTS?
The tank looks pretty pathetic with a bunch of 1-2" frags glued everywhere on the rock. But I will take a FTS when I have my latest batch of frags this week.

conductivity?
I have a conductivity probe that comes with my GHL Profilux controller package for measuring salinity. It's highly reliable and matched well with my refractometer. I have it set to trigger an alarm and stop dosing anything if the conductivity/salinity gets too high. One extra safety to avoid overdosing.

Nice! some cool polyp extension on those guys. and man, those are some pretty purple rocks.
Thanks Jon,
Most of the rocks have been with me since day one in my reef. The coralines are always thick and purple. They do take up a lot of ALK/CA. When I was keeping a tank full anemones and nothing else, I still had to keep running ca reactor or dose two parts.

Hi,

just curious, do you fee alot or have alot of fishes?
why do you have to run all of those thing?
BRS ROX carbon
BRS high capacity GFO
BRS bio pellets

I'm going for the ULNS and I have more fish than I should. I have a hell of a time getting nitrate down from 20+ppm from keeping anemones. My refugium(chaeto) were growing but it wasn't doing enough for exporting nitrate. The only thing that works for me is the biopellets. And so far, it's been working nicely. The GFO is to keep the phosphate closer to 0. I took it off line for a week while running the biopellets and it went up to 0.08ppm(per hanna checker).
I've always been running carbon to keep the water clear and to absorb any toxic chemicals released by the inhabitants.
Even with the very low nutrient reading, my chaeto is growing fine under strong LED lights. I took 80% out of the refugium after getting those really low nutrients reading to see if my chaeto is growing or not. But it's growing just fine.

I have the exact same thing in my system (SPS and NPS)...and the simple answer is: 0 Nitrates, 0 Phosphates and crystal clear water even with the insane nutrient load I put into my NPS tank.

Looks nice Nick. What are you running the Black Python at K and power?

I'm not sure where to find the K table for the specific power but here's my lighting schedule. It goes from really blue to blue to whitish blue back to blue and really blue and off.
Ignore channel 4. That's fuge light.

Actually, most of the frags came from members on RC. My lfs do have frags and they're mostly on ORA stuffs. But the deal of frag pack from members are much better. I feel that I don't need no stinkin' name-brand or "designer" corals. With good husbandry, your corals can look just as good. With bad husbandry, the corals will turn brown. Name brand or not.

Nick... i was just creeping around on the anemone's forums looking for your giga post... when i finally found it, and i saw what you posted i was a litttttle sad...

butttttttttttttt, im sure you'll have great successs with these sps just like your Giga's.. :) im already excited to see what your growout will look like
