New Store Amazing "Reeflife"

We've all had our run ins with every lfs im sure; i second jessp on the hamilton bulbs. I think they are like 40 or 50 so well say 45 just in case :). For a double ended 250w halide I might add, locally!

I love how pat's such a straight shooting guy. He tells you why, and when he has a deal that he can pass on, he gives it. I'm talking about the Hamilton's specifically. They were dirt cheap, and I bought them as soon as I could afford them. That made me a happy and dedicated customer. I just wish that XM bulbs were as cheap, but they're expensive everywhere... At least the 10% FMAS discount helps!

And Fragstravaganza, if continued, is awesome. I've gotten some awesome stuff from there.

Im not trying to put him down or anything, If you think I am lying you can ask him your self. He said he was up till 3am setting up the store and he dozed off. I coulda walked out with some stuff like an a$$ which you are trying to make me look like Rogger, but I didnt I simply woke him up and asked for some water.

The thing I dont understand is about his water going up due to commercial interest. What does he mean by that?

Ive never talked bad about anyone on here either, so get your facts straight.

I was not trying to make you look like an a$$, if you did not understood what he told you about the water you could have ask him, don't you think?
You asked me to get my facts straight, ok, lets get the "facts straight" so you can see were I am coming from.
This is you talking bad about Big Al's and Beverly's, The funny part is that just a day before you had been asking at Drs Foster & Smith forum regarding this fish and telling them you were interested in purchasing one, so obviously you knew this fish will grow big and I am sure no one force you to buy it.

Last night Big Als sold me a Blue Spotted Grouper and told me he would be fine in my 15gal till I set-up the 210 that im going to be getting. Well I bring him home and acclimate him and drop him in my tank and to me he looks to big for it. Anybody got any tanks laying around bigger than 15gal? Around 20-35gal [/QUOTE]

Yea, well I asked more then one employee. I asked about 3. He is nice he is light in color and when he got stressed he was dark. But after a night in the tank he is light again. I would like to pick up a bigger tank today. So if anybody can help me out this would be great.

Hi Im going to be setting up a 210gal tank. I was interested in buying one of these from your site. I have a question. Why are the Hawaii groupers more then the Indo-Pacific ones?

<a href=showthread.php?s=&postid=10640764#post10640764 target=_blank>Originally posted</a> by dfs/la2
carlosngloria,

Thank you for your inquiry. Pricing on fish usually varies due to collection location, availability, sizing, and if there is any coloration difference. We will check with our Aquatics Director Monday to find out why the Blue Dot Groupers from Hawaii are priced higher than the ones from Indo-Pacific and post when we have the information.

and just 2 weeks before you inquire on the same fish

Anybody know a good place to pick one of these up? It would be going in a 180gal.

This is one of your postings on Beverly's, You are telling people not to go buy livestock to a pet store because you couldn't acclimate a shrimp correctly.

I just purchased a clean shrimp for my sons tank. I acclimated it for about 45 mins like they told me. I released it into his tank and 5 mins later it died. I call Beverlys and inform them on the situation and they tell me theres no guarantee on salt water fish. So heres a little warning do not buy saltwater live stock from beverlys. I informed them that they lost a customer. I was planning on buying a 120 gal tank from them with everything to get it reef ready. They didnt seem to care. Well they lost a cust. over a $17 cleaner shrimp.

Note to the new comers make sure the LFS you are purchasing from has a guarantee.

To ease the tension and kind of take this in another direction, seeing the above post, towards the end, I'm left wondering what LFS in the area have a live guarantee?

I think I've seen one shop, don't remember who, but it was on their flier. What shops in our area have it? I'll be very surprised if more than just that one have it, as I thought the deal with LFSs is that there is no live guarantee and the internet places can do it because of the profit from the volume of sales they do versus local stores.

They only place I talked bad about was Beverlys due to the way they handled the situation. I did not talk bad about Big Als I simply asked if any one had bigger tanks laying around that I could set-up. So I purchased a 65g tank and I put him in there and he is doing fine. This week Ill be purchasing the 210g.

Hey Rogger, If I ever go to court will you please be my lawyer?
You and Carlos could make a hell of an Investigative team.

I went and saw the new store tonight. Firstly, I was pleasantly surprised that the trip was actually barely longer than to the store on Griffin and definitely shorter than to the old store on Anglers Ave. Had I not missed the turn and ended up going 15 m/h through the departure terminal at FLL airport, I would have made it there even faster :D

It is nicely laid out, not too small, not too big. I think it has great potential. Pat put a lot of work into it, I think it will be great once it's fully set up and stocked. He also assured me that "Wednesday Night Fragstravaganza" will resume in the very near future.

As far as the price of the water, he told me that Dania's "Commercial Business Surcharge" is double that of Cooper City, because they buy their water from Hollywood. He was forced to increase his price since he doesn't sell NSW, but makes his own water.

Congrats to the new store and best of luck Patrick!

having some experience in working in two LFS as well as lots of hobby expereience, i have to say your right. most stores will not give a "live guarantee" its very difficult for them to do so, however from the stores i have worked at. the owners are more the understanding. in one of the stores i worked at the owner was very understanding to his customers. and on quite a few occasion replaced a fish or sold a replacement at half off, however there was rules to receive this treatment. he clearly explained to customers that you should have your water tested before purchasing a fish to see if your tank is capable, as well as discuss with the educated employees, your system and tank inhabitants. then after a fish or invert is purchased, say the fish died that night or next day, you could bring the fish in with another water sample. then further action was taken at the owners discretion.

and i would have to say im sure the same would go for the LFS im currently working at.

its impossible to give a LIVE GUARANTEE, sadly many people in this hobby rush into things just like anything else, forgetting that they are dealing with living creatures. i have had customers ask me if a fish in a tank was salt or fresh, fair enough. then ask if a fish in that same tank was salt or fresh, i bit my tongue and told them again. i had people come in refuse any information i had for them and said they knew what they were doing, bought a saltwater fish, put it in there freshwater tank and demand there money back after it died. i had people take shrimp and inverts home, and after being tought proper acclimation procedure, they would still just straight dump them into the tank because they had somewhere to be and couldnt wait for them to acclimate, then say the store owed them another because it died. those are just a few. its shocking what many people do in this hobby. and because of that, i would be surprised to find any store that had a true 'guarantee

my advice is to find a lfs that fits your needs, not necessairly the best prices in town, but one that takes the time to get to know you and your aquarium, as well as take part in conversation expanding both the experience and knowledge of the customer and LFS employees. in the long run it will be a very beneficial relationship between you and the store, as im sure many members of the club have found already.

* its good to hear hes back up and running, ill have to stop by once fragstravaganza starts back up :D

ReefWreak.......Petworld in davie has a live guarantee for 24 hours if your fish expires, you just have to bring in a sample of your tank water.

Cool, Thx.

I always thought that I had been to most of the stores in SoFL, but there are SOOO MANY that people talk about that I have never been to yet, like Petworld and a bunch others.

Thanks for the heads up though.

Jess, sorry but I'm all out of Hamilton bulbs and am not too sure when I will have more. But keep an eye out a couple of months down the road. :)
