Just got back from Cichlids and salt. John was telling me that there is going to be a new store opening in Springfield. I think he said it is called Pets Plus. it's supposed to be opening just across Battlefield from the mall, right across from McDonalds on the south side. dont know much more than that, other than they have hired the people that used to run Featherfins.

might be interesting. anyone have any more info?

also, Cichlids and Salt is getting a large new shipment of SW fish, corals, inverts, and some clams late tonight. I am gonna head back over there tomorrow and see if he got anything good.

Checked it out....not bad. Over priced of course but 25-30 tanks plus coral tank> nothing great< lots of fish! All different kinds and some dry goods too..... Giant shark and ray tank w/ a small shark and a ray thats a little to big for the tank :( Let me know what you guys think?!

I actually thought the prices were pretty good. Not as good as online but then again you don't have to mess with a minimum order. The cheaper fish were about $1-2 more than online and of course snails are still best ordered online.

With the buy 1 get 1 free offer though, that couldn't be beat. I ended up buying 13 fish, 2 stars, and 1 crab. I had my brother go and use a coupon for me on Saturday so I got 12 fish, 6 of them free, and then went again on Sunday with another coupon and got 4 more.

The coral selection was really weak so I'm hoping they get more. They did have a brain I almost pulled the trigger on though.

Midwest exotics have cheaper prices than this place. Also, I think the quality is better at C&S, Fish's, and Tropical wonders. I think they tired to rush the systems too fast, bad idea! The coral tank is horrible! It's such a tradegy to have something like that. I would like to see a store take their time to get things right, even if that meant not having saltwater at the grand opening. Folks who may have shown up to purchase saltwater items could have then received the coupons, which would have saved them a lot of money in the long run, and been better for the environment. I know that they also don't know a whole lot about salt. One employee stated that a lunar wrasse was totally reef safe. So buyer beware. I'd suggest sticking to the other 3 locals until petland can get their staff trained and systems cured, then they might be an option. I'd like to know how much of the saltwater items actually make it in the long run. I'd hate for anyone who purchased anything to get sick and ruin his/her system at home, and I hope that no one got any misinformation, but to each his/her own! Good luck!!!:)

just got home from petland. I was not impressed. Most of the tangs were ich covered.. They also would not honor my coupon for the buy one get one. They said it was only on $25.00 or less fish, and the ones I wanted were more... The coupon said nothing about a $$ limit on the fish. I ended up buying a mimic tang that looked healthy, out of sympathy. I will let you know if it makes it.

I looked this place over the other day. Tanks were rushed, you can tell. Place was packed. They sell dogs which I am against, buy from breeders. I plan on getting a nano-cube from my brother and was checking to see if this place would be good to get some stuff from. I will probably buy some items from them, but will stick with C&C for fish probably. I saw several poor looking anemone's.

Triggerjay, I almost picked up that same fish..hahahaha...good looking specimen...hope it does well for you.

I still havent made it back home since they opened. hopefully I can make it by this weekend. but with all the traffic it might not be worth it.

I really need a couple of clowns for my tank. did the ones they have look any good? or should I just stick with one of the other stores....

where exactly is Fish's store? I drove around a few weeks ago and couldnt find it. so I ended up driving all the way down to Arkansas to check out that other store. the mushroom tank by the entrance is amazing. ended up getting a peppermint shrimp and some snails to keep me company on the long drive home. :D

They had a few (tiny) ocellaris earlier this week - they were 29.99 each! Fish is getting some in this week at a much better price. He's located in the 700 block of West Bypass (I think 760?) - just north of Chestnut Expressway - on the west side of the road.

is his store in that long row of shops in that warehouse looking building just north of the old railroad tracks? I drove through there and didnt notice a sign on any of the doors.

guess i'll have to look closer.
