New tailspot blenny

So today I picked up a tailspot blenny from my LFS. I drip acclimated him and set him in the quarentine tank. At first he was breathing heavy and just laying in the corner of the tank. Now he is in the same spot laying on an angle in the corner almost on his sides. I'm pretty sure it's just cuz he is laying on the silicone cuz in the bucket he was laying flat. He has been in the tank since 4:30 pm Saturday night. He is still in the same spot but his breathing has slowed down. He isn't moving at all. I love this little guy and I really want him to be ok can anyone tell me what's wrong and if it's just him being shy and scared?

Tailspot Blennys are timid a lot of times when first introduced, but I would honestly be worried at this point. Typically within a couple hours they will find a nice hole in the rock work to hide out. Sounds like he is having some issues. Good luck

So I have opted to transfer to the display tank due to an unexpected ammonia and nitrite spike. I called the store and they told me he was quarentined and disease free so I am drip acclimating him right now and he seems to be moving a little bit more so we will see. Fingers crossed!

They don't like being exposed cause of there size they feel vulnerable always place a piece of PVC or life rock where they can acclimate feeling safe!

I am happy to report that I concluded the drip acclimation and I placed the tailspot blenny into the tank and he swam directly to a tiny tiny hole in the rock and has his little head poked out, it is night time so hopefully the lack of light will help with his acclimation!

they seem pretty hardy, had a sudden storm blow up and prevent the fedex plane from landing delaying an order for an extra day.....lost everything including some chromis except the tailspot blenny.....he was nearly dead when he arrived but he snapped out of it.....

I checked this morning and he was displaying what looks like tiger stripes of brown on his body. What is this?

Thank you! He is back to normal coloring, no stripes and he is hiariouse to watch! He even eats mysis! He has been swimming around soo much!

One of my all time favorite fish. They are fun to watch. Glad to hear yours is doing better. Mine get striped markings only just as the lights go out. Normal coloring about ten minutes before lights on.

Mine was extrememly shy for about a week and wouldn't eat anything... I thought he was a goner because he had those stressed striped the whole time. But after a week he was out kicking eating algae and getting fat. He even swims around my hand and nips at me from time to time. Just like a puppy. Glad I got him over the Tiger Blenny.

I bought one, and he immediately went into a whole in my LR. He would poke his head out and look around. Quite cute. He would never come out , even to eat . After a week he died. When I bought him he was at the LFS store swimming and pecking around for food.

I don't get it. My tank was far more fish friendly than the bare LFS store tank. I'm undecided on trying another one, especially since I read that they develop a taste for SPS coral as they age.

I don't have SPS, but only heard that some blennies pick at SPS. Haven't heard about the tailspot though. Had one in my larger tank with tangs and lots of wrasses and he was always out and about. Grew so large he had streamers! I didn't even knew they could get those! Definitely try again... They're people's favorites for a reason and eat tons of algae.

I have mostly SPS's, a clam, a LTA, two softies, and no LPS's. Mine has been a perfect reef citizen. The one I had for many years before this one was perfectly behaved too. Great herbivore and perfectly reef safe in my tank anyways.

I have a midas blenny in my tank. When i first bought him he would just lay on the ground showing his stripes for the first couple days. However, when i would leave the room i would peek through the door and saw him swimming around. I assume blennies are very shy but now mine is doing fine but still gets stressed out when i clean the glass

Mine has been well behaved too, neatest personality & fun to watch. He took a few days to settle in & I get the stripes sometimes when he hides in the rocks & now he does it once in a while when he sits on the mag float. Eats like a pig, I researched quite a bit before I got one. Ate the first day I got him, formula 2 flakes & whatever frozen I toss in the tank. Won't touch seaweed sheets but eats everything else & picks off the rocks.

I just bought a Tailspot yesterday and he acted funny for the first 4 hours. Laying odly and the current moving him. He also had discoloration. When I went to check on him this morning all his color was back and he was eating algae off the rocks. Awesome fish so far.

this thread is great cause i was looking to get a tail spot blennie and was wondering if he would be ok with all my SPS, LPS and softies i will aslo get a calm pretty soon so are there any thing i should be worried about with adding one or will he not touch anything??????
