New Tank and Clown Fish

Hello All,
I have had my tank for 6 months and now the salt level is 1.04 I have tried and can't seem to get it back to 1.024-5
Can anyone tell me a trick?
Worried about Marlin and Nemo.....

How are you testing your salinity?
Just remove saltwater from your tank and replace with RODI water to dilute the salinity. Do it in small amounts.

Buy I think the problem here is: are you adding saltwater to replace evaporation? this will increase your salinity indifinitely. Only replace evaporated water with RODI water.

I would check also if the instrument you measure with is OK. 1.040 is in the range where fish start having problems.

Forgot: Fish can handle quick drops in salinity quite well, so lowering of the salinity can be done quickly if you only have fish.
Just remove some water and replace it with RO water that you let drip in over the course of an hour or two.
Many shrimp on the other hand are super sensitive to salinity changes in any direction., especially if they are close before or after molding. The reason for this is their open loop blood stream that let them bleed out if their skin ruptures anywhere other than a joint (those have "shut-off safety valves").
Corals are somewhere in between.

I think we have a troll on our hands. Marlin and nemo? Salinity at such a high level? Only 2 post? Seems fishy to me, pun intended.

What would the purpose of trolling be? I'm guessing someone that has a problem did a google search and found RC.

Verify your sg test with a hydrometer that has been calibrated and not a hydrometer. You didn't say what you used to test the sg. I would do a 10% water change accept use only RODI water but dripp it slowly so it doesn't shock the system. Turn main pump off and use a powerhead to mix the water. Or if you have a sump put the RODI water in there while the main pump is running. After this need to recheck your sg.
