New tank at Strong Museum!

Alright....

Sorry to bump an old thread, but was wondering how the tank was running with the filtration setup on it....

I've been a long-time lurker on the CADS and Dialyseas filters, and have been dying to get some feedback on how they work long term; Strong is just the first place with enough coin to pull it off. :)

Oh, and new Pics wouldn't hurt, too.. :)

Its going good. Check out my post I made in the other thread this afternoon with some new pics. Still battling some sediment/detritus issues with some areas that are not getting enough flow but aside from that things are going very well.

Sorry I didn't answer this previous, I guess I missed it but better late than never right?? :spin2:

The CADS/Dialyseas are working pretty well. The Dialyseas regulates salinity levels very well while preforming daily water changes. That, combined CADS system keeps the water surprisingly clean, all things considered. We just hooked up one heckuva big Deltec skimmer and was a little surprised that it isn't pulling out more skimmate.

We have a ton of big fish in the tank and I feed them well. When I got the new tank I honestly thought if I could keep nitrates under 50 I would be happy since we have such a big bioload. It was way higher on the old system. The last time I tested the nitrates on this system they were at 3. The fish are healthy, most of the corals are growing good.

Overall it wasn't a perfect system, but its doing a great job I think, and giving me an opportunity to have a world class reef display which has always been my goal.

Being just days away from the one year anniversary of the tank's delivery I thought I'd take some pictures to share with everyone of how it is coming along. After our last round of coral additions we stand at 91 different types of corals in the Rainbow Reef. Combined with our anemone reef we have over 100 unique types of corals on display :-)

Tough to get much into a single FTS so here it is broken down...

Here are pics that Gary M took, thanks for letting me post these. He takes better shots with his point and shoot than I can do with my dSLR.... sigh

Did you post the thread about todd's torch? It looks almost the same as the one I saw early when I was looking through the threads. Where did you get yours?

Yup, I posted about the Todd's torch. I got it from a LFS The Reef Shoppe, where it originated, but lots of folks and stores around here have frags for sale from time to time. For me it has been a decently fast grower (for a torch at least). Cheers!

Meet RayRay our newest addition

Meet RayRay our newest addition

Yesterday we picked up our newest addition to the tank. She is a 15 year old female Haller's Round Ray. As you can see she has taken some damage in the past, a large angelfish that was added to her previous tank nearly killed her by picking at her tail and as a result much of her tail was lost. We are happy to 'rescue' her though and give her a new home in our Rainbow Reef. She has been alone in quarantine for two years after healing so I'm sure she will be happy to have some company in her new home. We added her last night and she took to her new surroundings quickly, she even ate some sinking pellets within minutes of being introduced and today she was already coming to the surface of the water to be hand fed.

Here she is in the igloo cooler I used to transport and acclimate her.

Here she is just moments after being added to the tank.

They meet! And then paid no further attention to each other...

Seeing her in person you can't help but draw the parallels to a puppy. Though I'm sure it isn't for the same reason, when she gets excited for food she wags her tail just like a dog. Very very cute. I'm excited to have her in the tank.

Cheers!

Would be excited to have you stop by. Shoot me a PM if you'd like and I'd try to be there to show you around. We just unveiled a new tank as well. We took our predator tank offline, moved our anemone reef into the larger 180g tank and have setup our 120g tank as our "Rainbow River" freshwater planted tank. Very cool so far, just added our first group of fish today. Hope to hear from ya.
