New tank BB

I was just wondering if anyone would suggest a BB bottom tank.

I am starting a 75 Gal. It will have only SPS. I have a 20 gal fuge. and 250 gal. skimmer.
I was debating either a 1/2 bed or no bed.
I will be using 75 lbs of LR also.
Also if I go BB on the tank is it suggested to do the same on the fuge?
Thanks for any replies

For sps I would not think for a second BB/No fuge. When I had mud in my system I battled algea and had brown corals since going BB my colors are insane and not a spec of algea. The key is reading up and doing it right.

thanks for info i will def. be doing the bare bottom. I am guessing maintenance is the biggest issue? I will just run fuge with no sand only LR

One the tank is running it will be easy to take care of. For every minute of research you do you'll save an hour of work in the long run. Get a premium membership and do a search for barebottom you'll get a wealth of info :)

Research rock cooking as well & then do it. I tell everyone that. That would be my best advice.

Completely agree. Most important things of BB, IMO, is skimmer, flow, and cooking your rocks.

Rock cooking is totally unneeded as long as your rock isnt awful.

BB is essentially a cooking state. Your rocks will shed for a bit, but after a while will be just as clean as had they been cooked.

thanks alot,
keep the opinions coming.
It is hard without being able to use the search engine.
I will post some pics tomorrow.

DSB TO BB

DSB TO BB

The debate is out, and its over. Here's the simple truth of it. Dsb's work, and work well, it takes a lot more planning and care however to get the dsb to not be a sink. I learned the lesson the hard way. I battled hair algae and won in my dsb tank, and also battled other algaes. Now I went bb and everything is much more colorful and easier, trust me bb is much easier to maintank a healthy tank enviroment. go bb. No need to cook rocks imo.

Was also wondering a good suggestion on what level Seio to buy for the bottom. I am currently using maxi-jets until they ship my Vortech(which keeps getting moved back). I want the Seio on the ground and the Vortech ciculating the rest.
Thanks,
Ian

Cut the BB propaganda crap. They take about the same amount of planning, and the same amount of work.

WE DO NOT NEED TO START THIS DEBATE AGAIN.

I totally disagree. My 125 DSB was twice the work compared to my 280 BB. The BB tank took a little more tweaking up front but now that its running I hardly even touch it.....

P.S. Its heated replys like yours that get the mud flying......

I would say 2600 but they are monsters size wise. The seios don't push the water around like you would think because the flow is so wide. If you can hide it well, 2600 and turn in down if need be. If you can't hide it, 1500.

Have you considered starboard for the bottom? I always worry about having rock on bare glass and the SB looks more natural to me eye.

I kinda like the glass bottom. and no offensne to people that do not like glass bottom, but for every person who has seen this set up versus my sand bed tanks love the barebottom.

For the Seio's I guess I will have to see them in person to decide.
