New tank build

About a week or so into the rock curing process but been working slowly on plumbing and stand modifications for about 4 months now. You'll see the water level is a bit low and unfortunately that was due to not drill the overflow high enough :/ It does give me a little more of a safety net it my drains get clogged and the pump drains my sump though. It's a 75 gallon with a 20 gallon sump, soon to be sicce syncra return and I'm thinking reef breeders LEDs. I went with reef saver dry rock and was able to bundle it with my new rodi from BRS and got free shipping...woohoo! I've been curing the rock for a little over a week now, planning to add dry sand later this upcoming week. Still have to figure out my controller and outlet configuration as well as my ATO. This will be my first large(ish) reef as my only other tank is an aquapod 24. Let me know what you think so far and any recommendations you may have!
Cheers!

U may be a ble to fix the water level issue. What plumbing drain style did u use? Herbi, or bean anamal will allow u to fix. Then use gutter guard on the over flow box.

I'm just using a gl*******s 1500 overflow kit, I thought about cutting some new acrylic and extending the height on the box but I hadn't considered gutter guard! I just don't like seeing all that space beneath my trim haha.

They are at the same height unfortunately, I've thought about adding a 90 facing up to help with the water level but there's not enough room with how the inside of the box is constructed. I guess the moral of the story is measure twice cut once lol.

That's in the works at this moment! I'm going to integrate the LED's into the hood so they sit flush and vent out the top. Just have to decide which LED system I will ultimately run. Thinking either Reefbreeder 48 or reef breeder 32.

With the water line being a bit low, the positive side is that if your drain ever clogs and the sump ends up pumping up into the DT, you should be able to handle the extra capacity. :)

My thought exactly! And with the larger canopy you wouldn't see the lower water level...just painful knowing that extra water volume that I could've had is missing haha

What about a ball valve to adjust the flow rate? Adjusted correctly it would reduce flow enough for the return to keep your level wherever you want it?

The only problem is I wont get the surface skimming I ideally want since the teeth are so low. It would pull water from lower in the column first instead of the surface gunk.

I would just buy a bigger overflow box to fix the problem while its still a new tank this way in the long run you will be happier

Well the water I was curing the dry rock with has been removed and the dry sand is in..yay!! Looks 100% better already, I've decided that for now I'm going to tackle the water level issue later (after the canopy and lights are assembled) that way I can see if it's even necessary to modify the overflow box.
