New Tank - IM 30EXT with Tunze 1073.04 - Noise/Vibration

Greetings Everyone,

I am very excited about starting a new tank, I hope to share as much as possible along the way ... this build will be all Tunze with the new IM EXT series that runs a Herbie style drain.

I have a Tunze 9410 DC in place as my skimmer and my return is a Tunze 1073.04 ... Tunze ATO coming soon ..... tank has even yet to cycle.

The 1073.04 may prove to be too much pump for this setup and if so, I may go with a .03 but at this point in time, my main issue with the .04 is Noise and Vibration.

I have a silicone matt in place and even went so far as silicone tubing. Even with the silicone tube, you can still fee TOO much vibration IMO all the way up the standpipe.

Average Decibels with the pump running alone is about ~ 53 decibels.

I noticed some curious dimples on my impeller shaft that I'd never seen before on other Tunze pumps, four in total uniformly space, you can feel them as they are slightly raised.

I wonder if this would be causing the vibration that is causing so much noise?
The vibration is constant, even if you suspend the pump. I truly am suspecting this impeller.

The dimples you show are only a remnant of the molding process. They would not be a cause. The main culprit here will be the bearings, make sure that both bearings, the red silicon tube with ceramic sleeve are not torn and are fully seated in their sockets. The one down in the pump must be pushed in with a blunt object other than the impeller, a dowel, pen, butt of a small file or screwdriver, etc. If the silicon is torn or this is not seated their is a lot of vibration. In general 53db sounds correct, but it is hard to gauge how well the app/device you have works. 50db is typical ambient noise in a living room/kitchen, for example from AC vents or a refrigerator, 40db is a very quiet bedroom. 53db would not be loud and generally quieter than the majority of pumps available. With that said, frequency tends to be what makes noice objectionable, not volume. Check the bushings and let me know. The 1073.020 is much weaker, it is much quieter because it has a standard ceramic ferrite impeller, the strong neodymium magnets in the larger pumps have more pull, more oscillation and more vibration, but it should not be louder than for example the 9410 pump.

I should have noted that I did already make sure the bushings/bearings were fully seated. The front was perfect. I gave the back one a firm nudge, I am certain that it was already fully seated.
