What kind of camera you using? I thought I was all decided on what I wanted from hanging out in the photography forum, but the one I was looking at (Canon S3) would not let me zoom in on something a foot or so away, would just get real blurry. No one at the store could really do anything with it either. I had heard it could take great macro shots, which you can get really close in if you physically move the camera closer, but with a glass wall and a foot or more of water between me and my subject, it's not possible to move the actual camera closer. So now I'm back to wondering what, if anything, to get. I've got a cheapo Nikon coolpix 3200 right now. And I really can't afford to get into the whole digital SLR realm.
The camera is a Fuji S9000 which is actually not a SLR. It is about as high end as you can get without SLR. 9 MP and 10.7 wide angle optical zoom lens. I still am trying to master the macro thing. Those were with the macro lens I bought for it. That is one of the nice things. It is not SLR but does accept a telephoto and wide angle lens to be screwed on to the existing lens. The camera alone is only around $450 if you shop around online for a good price. I am not sure if I would go this route again. I really liked the Cannon SLR and the new Sony is very nice. Also used a Nikon D50 at circuit city. That was unreal but the cost is not where I need to be yet. The macro for this seems to struggle if I get too much water between the lens and the coral. Seems to distort the image and cant get it focused well. That coral was only 3 inches from the glass. Thanks for the compliments though. Like I said I am still trying to figure everything out on this camera.
I can understand....I'm standing at the American store over by Fairview Heights and asking this guy how the heck I can take macros of something just a foot or so away and they couldn't make the thing do it. It's got a 12x zoom on the basic lens on it along with macro and super macro capabilities, and those do great if you walk the camera right up to your shooting target, but when you can't do that then what? I'm disappointed. I was all set to get this thing from what I had heard in the photo forum, but my lack of getting it to do what I need it to do in the store puts me off from coughing up $400 for it. I would like to be able to take nice pics of my corals like I see on here frequently, but not willing to really go big bucks for a camera to do it. Schiller's has been advertising the Rebel XT at $699, but that's nearing double the price of the camera I was just looking at. I guess I'll just settle for what I've got for now....and my semi blurry coral pictures at times.
