New tank pics - some new additions

Here are some recent shots of the softy tank - there is a new school of blue regals, however they are still camera shy, but damn cute! I will post updated shots of my larger system here shortly. This is my 'fun' tank. ;)

Hope you enjoyed the shots! All taken with a cool underwater camera (Olympus 770SW) - love this camera!

BTW - can somebody help my ID the 4th picture down from the top? These things are wickedly cool, but move - a lot. I had this colony in the sump when I first got them about 3 mos back - and I swear, within a day, 4 had jumped off the rock and I found them the next day at least a ft away from the mother colony. Since then I see a couple here and there in the tank they are in, like they sprouted off and moved away from home. ???

Thanks Brooke. When all 6 of them are out, its an amazing sight with all that blue schooling together. Soon as I put that camera in the water... POOF! they go play dead. In a couple weeks whe they are more comfortable at home, I should be able to get shots of all 6.

Mike- Looks good. Have you tried to play with the white balamce any on that camera? I have noticed that -.03 with my lights cuts some of the yellow out.

Mike I have the same camera but I didn't know it could take such great shots! I knew it could do underwater shots but I hadn't tried yet. Something about putting my nice new camera in my tank is a little unsettling! :lmao:
I think I will have to try now. :)

I still think I get better shots when the camera is against the glass on supermacro mode. But...when the coral is too far away, in goes the camera. Just make sure to rinse it every once and awhile.

I was thinking the same thing - just never saw one in person (possibly) until now. They do not seem to bother anything, and most folks who see the tank zoom in on them first.

My lights are 14k MH x2 (80 gallon tank). Personally I always think the pics come in 'too' blue. :) I will need to play with the WB and see the effect - a good excuse to play in the water :D. Surprisingly autoWB seems to give a pretty decent representation of 'true' color on my screen. I am always amazed by this camera - I own a lot of expensive SLR equipment, and for tank shots, this thing kicks $ss!

I am thinking on ordering large prints of a couple of my more spectacular reef shots... the different textures and diverse colors in a reef are simply unrivaled in my book - besides I have lots of empty walls. ;)

I also use the auto funtion on the WB. I have pheonix 14k and T5s on my tank. Sometimes the pics do come out bluer than others. I think that is the most frustrating part of the camera and taking shots of the reef. Everyday they are a little different.

Very pretty, Mike!

Do you have any SPS that the blue tangs can hide in?

Not in that tank - only softies. There is one exception. I have a larger colony of a blue/purple Prostrata that I broke off its base awhile back and needed a place to hold it. So... I laid it on its side on top of some LR and um, forgot about it. It now is one with that rock and what was once the side of that colony is now a very large base with multiple new tips sprouting up towards the light.

Interestingly, with the base that large from it being on its side, it seems to get a lot more growth than when it was in its vertical position. It also looks wickedly cool and does not have low light spots since it is not shading itself (yet). For fragging, this guy would be perfect with a multiple of small tips that could easily pop off.

No, thats whats so cool about it... you just toss it in and try to line up your shots with the LCD on the back. Cool, eh? ;)

Mike, do you have a full tank shot? Your tank is gorgeous and is exactly what I would like my tank to be. I love it when people can make a softie tank look even better than SPS tanks. How many fish total?

Mike,

Just looked up that camera on amazon since i have a little one coming soon. i want to get a decent camera.

Alot of people loved the camera but alot also said the picture quality isnt that great and the functions are not user friendly?

What are you thoughts? Where did you purchase yours?
