or you can even go with DE's. But you would need a 3rd ballast and the DE L3 reflectors. They put out as much intensity as a 400w SE bulb and you can keep the same ballasts.
Thanks guys for the nice compliments. I was really thinking about removing the braces as well but was afraid of compromising the structural integrity of the tank, eventhough it doesn't seem to do much. Maybe I can buy some acrylic and just glue it to the middle, what do you guys think?
I actually was going to switch to 250 DE but i talked to Daniel over at Pacific Garden Supply and he opposed the idea.

on the acrylic replacing the black bracing, on the 40 gallon freshwater that i have, i did something similar, didnt work with acrylic, over time, it eventually pulled from the tank where i glued it. I think it might be better to go with some glass, where you can silicone it to the front and back of the tank.

just do three pendants se lights...
or just do a smaller wattage like a 175 watt bulb in the middle...If you are worried about heat and costs...Regardless gabe you got a chiller so doing three pendants would probalby be your best bet...

i used the acrylic glue and glued it to the plastic trip, basically underneith where you would cut the brace off of. if you go with a wider piece of glass, maybe like 6 inches, and then silicone it to the glass that is hidden behind the trim in the front, would be like how the edge of the tank is siliconed together.

I'd go with three 250s too. That simplifies maintenance. The islands isolated by sand is a good idea. They look good and keep the fast growers from over growing the slow growers.
What is the bottle next to the calcium reactor for?
If your DSB in the tank? How deep?
I see egg crate in the tank bottom shot. Is there a plenum under the sand?

WOW that is one clean setup, very very nice. I want something exactly like that for my big tank.
Only thing I can give as in advice is silicone doesn't stick to acrylic it pulls away real easy.
You would have to use some other type of adhesive from like tap plastics or go with glass from a glass shop and get some glue from the glass shop.
I would contact the tank maker and ask what could happen if u remove the braces. Since they put it there I would assume that it is for structure support and could be a cause for concern of cracking.

. Yup you got my idea. I think i will go with another 250, that way i won't worry about having 4 pieces of glass and 210 gallons of water on the floor. I tried to isolate my zoas and mushrooms over on the right side to prevent a tank wide spread.

I actually don't have a DSB in my tank, it is rougly 1.25 inch i think (80lbs of LS). After the sand is spread out evenly it does not surpass where the stand covers the tank.
No, plenum. I used eggcrate in my main display tank to help anchor and make my aquaspacing job easy and also to prevent any damage if a rock were to fall directly on the glass.

That is my experience as well with silicone and acrylic, but i think i'll prolly ditch this idea and just get another 250. It seems that quite a few number of people with 30" high tanks have had good success with 250.
