New tank... should I QT fish?

So Im almost ready with the cycling of the new tank (first ever), so my question is. The tank is completely new, no corals or fish. Do I have to QT the new arrivals even tho the tanks is empty of fish and corals?.

Or once the cycle is completed get the new fish and get them in acclimatization without the QT part?

Thanks for the help.

If you want to take the risk you don't have to QT but if one fish is sick via parasite you'll end up having to remove all the fish and treat them and let your tank sit vacant for the next few months that's a choice and a risk you'll ultimately have to make but if it was me I would QT a fish or two at a time

It is definitely a risk. I have never quarantined my fish but I understand that I am extremely lucky. Chances are you will be okay, but you will rather be safe than sorry. It is just good practice.

Likewise, but if I had the room or the resources, I would have had a QT.

The problem is this: the most common parasite, ich, spends half its life cycle IN THE SAND. Put an infested fish into your tank, and it has a new home.

It is a personal choice and how much risk your willing to take. Personally I QT all my fish, first one to the last one. I will just mention that ich gets a lot of threads but, IMHO There are a lot worse things that can get into your tank. Just my 2 cents

You've already put a lot of time and effort into your tank. You've taken the time to cycle it properly, you've done your homework on what it takes to keep a saltwater tank, and you apparently want to do it the right way so do that.
Always QT.

+1^^^. Trust me it is a lot better looking at a empty tank during a cycle than looking at an empty tank during the fallow period (at least 72 days). That is the longest time when you are excited about fish in your tank, but cant do nothing about it.

To play the devils advocate, if you have a trusted LFS (trusted can be used loosely), isn't their store technically the QT location? Or would a online store like Divers Den, that is more expensive per fish, but does the QT for you be the best option?

I am asking as I am currently in the process of curing rock/cycling my 60 gallon cube, so have 1-2 months to continue to plan my stocking list.

I would not trust any LFS at all, and I don't trust DD. Most LFS use Cooper which can masked other diseases and parasites. I rather be safe than sorry and know if I did get something in my DT, that it was my fault. I will know that I took all necessary steps (properly) to avoid situations.

This. No LFS properly quarantines. The longer a fish is at the LFS, the greater the probability of it incurring a parasite.

I just got $1000 of fish murdered (well, I feel like i murdered them) because I played Russian roulette. I lost them all to velvet. Everything. Dead.

I bought a 75 g, and a canister. I ordered a bigger air pump, and now I get to stare at sps for 72 days. Snails and sticks.

I never knew urchins were so interesting....

Seriously. QT. do yourself, and your fish, a favour.

It's boring, and costs more money. But the fish I lost - I could have bought 5 people a full setup.

No no no no no. No. No no no no.

No.

No fish you can buy, from anywhere, has been properly quarantined. I assure you of this.

Went 10 years, never qted - then BANG a fish (PBT) bought from LFS introduced Ick and 9 fish were lost

Now I take new fish through TTM with Parzi Pro treatment and 4 week QT after that.

Don't take the chance. It is a game a Russian Roulette and someday there will be a bullet in the barrel.
