New tank upgrade & pics

I spent Memorial weekend moving/upgrading my tank. the old one was a 60G that I had for about 7 or 8 years. In that time frame I moved it about 5 or 6 times...hard to remember. Things had overgrown somewhat, and I can't stop getting new corals! HAHA!...especially with the gems that Reef Culture and The Aquarius bring in!

The new tank is a 48" x 20" x 20" Rimless...and the sandbed is the original one from the begining...I've siphoned out a little here and there...added some new live sand as needed, but never have replaced it.

I originally provided water flow, in the 60, with 4 maxi-jet 900's on a wavemaster pro, with two maxijet 1200's in the overflow box, and a Mag 9 as a return pump.

The new tank has 4 MP10s, and a Sicce 2 as the return pump.

Fish are:

Tomini Tang
Helfrichi's firefish
Randall Anthias x 2
Possum wrasse (have had him/her?) for 10 years
Nocturnus Goby
Yasha Goby and Randall's shrimp
Candy Basslet

I'm really digging the new set-up!

Pics were taken 2 1/2 weeks after the move.

Thanks for looking!

Nice photos! Looks like a great setup. Did you move livestock over immediately after moving the sandbed? Did you have any issues with spikes due to the sandbed being disturbed?

Thanks for the compliments!

Everything was moved in 1 day...I have always used the bulk of the exisiting saltwater to rinse the sand bed of detritus. I then use 80%, or so, new water (mixed at least the night prior) to refill the new tank.

I've never had algae or cycling issues from doing it this way. However, I think it is important to realize that everything was extremely healthy with no pre-existing issue to deal with. The rocks, corals, and fish stay submerged in circulating water. Alot of the details with cords, placement of pumps, hooking up the UV sterilizer, etc. was done the following day.

All of the fish were eating that same night...even saw the Nocturnus Goby!

Beautiful tank and livestock! I love the candy basslet. Keep those awesome photos coming and thanks for sharing. JP

Thanks everyone!

Hunter- Thank you for the compliments. I followed your upgrade thread, and your new setup is amazing as well. Even after all these years, it is reinvigorating to get a new set-up. I guess by now though, we already know we are "Lifers"!

Jeff- Thanks Budddy! I saw your thread regarding the frustrations of photography...and you got that right! It is also painstakingly time consuming!

Ian- Thanks dude!..How are those new angels doing from Carlos? They were beautiful in the store!

Reefer 999 (Omar?) I hope I remembered your name correctly...much appreciated...and, Man, you can grow some beautifully colored Zoanthids/Palys!

The "Guts" of the system is a 29 gallon aquarium with no baffles. The drain is fed to a ASM G2 skimmer, that is modified to recirculate.

There is a 15watt Aquaultraviolet hang-on UV sterilizer.

Spectrapure auto top-off from a reservoir, where I mix in my buffer.

Sealab 28 blocks for calcium and trace elements.

The remainder of the space in the sump, is for holding frags/new corals, with a Kessil and MX Japanese led spotlights.

Lighting over the tank, is a TEK 4 X 54 watt fixture with 2 ATI Blue plus, 1 ATI Purple Plus, and 1 ATI Coral Plus. It also has 2 Current Tru-Lumens 4ft. strips of blue leds.

Thanks again, everyone!

SweetCoralline1- I use a Canon 5dMKII with a 100mm macro. With the coral pics, I also was using a full set of Kenko extention tubes, on a tripod, with a Cam ranger to control the camera.

The Basslet pic was the same camera and lense, without the extention tubes, and was handheld.

More importantly though, is the amount of reading, practicing, deleting, practicing again, deleting again, reading even more...etc.

Once you have some decent images to start with, then comes the over-whelming, for me, post processing of them.

It is all very time consuming!

Sweetcoralline1- It is alot of equipment, but not necessarily "needed"...It is like any undertaking/hobby...there is usually a specific tool for the job. And, you only find out what that "tool" is, by...wait for it...reading, practicing, deleting, practicig again, reading some more...etc....HAHA!

Skewlboy (Derek)- Haha!...don't use the on camera flash...DUH! Haha!

Minor nipping from the Multibar. Doing great otherwise and fattening up nicely. Did you pick up the Baby tang? How's it doing?

We need more pictures!

Ian- I did not pick up the tang. Carlos wanted to hang on to it, to make sure it was in perfect condition. I think he had only had it for a few days.
