Well, here is my new tank, back from afghanistan and had to restart, thanks mike for all the help! It has 250 watt MH, actinics, and moon lighting, temporary rubbermaid sump, and alot of live rock, it is acrylic, around 70 gallons total size, i plan on making a very impressive small reef with it. All i need now is a skimmer Had one, lol, paid the guy and he never shipped it, i was in afghanistan at the time and didnt know it until now, which was 5 to 6 months ago... oh well, lol, guess i need to teach my wife what stuff is lol.

yeah, waters still a little cloudy but, im happy with it, i am interested in caps whenever i do start adding corals, which will be months from now, but mostly i want the tank to be lps but i would like to grow a nice cap shelf.
 
I would like to find the guy who did you like that on the skimmer. Lets just say he wouldnt do that again. Like Bill said thanks for serving.

i honestly couldnt remember which one it was..... Oh well, lol, i kep looking on ebay and here for a good used one, im not in a rush seeing how i am not getting any coral for a while!
 
is it normal for a overflow tank to show the water line like that? does the hood lip usually come down so you cannot see it? like to hear your thoughts on how it looks with an exposed water line like that and if you guys think i should re do the hood and have it come down more to hide the water line. thanks, mike
 
if your overflow teeth are keeping your waterline too low an easy fix can be to fill the teeth with silicone till the water rises to the prefered height. If you need a lot of correction this may not work well. I am in the mood for a good beatdown! Have not got my nuckles bloody for a while!
 
Mike, I'd find a way to alter the water level if I was you. No need to be so low unless you are going to run an aggressive wave in there. How far below the tank top is the waterline? I'd think adjusting the returns would be much easier than altering the canopy.

I think the bloody knuckles is referring to all of us hunting down the B@stard who took your money on the skimmer. I find it hard to believe it was accidentally thrown away.
 
yeah, i think i am going too.... i am going to look at it and make wht changes i need to tonight or tomorrow, yeah i dont think my wife would have accidently thrown it away, it hada big footprint, euro reef rc 135... oh well, lol, lesson learned, should have waited until i was back seeing how she has no clue on this stuff....
 
Your overflow should be adjustable! But If not a good way to fix the water level Is to raise the box up and place a piece of hose 1" looks like It would fix the problem between the Tank rim and the overflow box where It sits on the rim of the tank. FYI Or a piece of wood cut to size to raise It up some.

also, mike, the damsel i got from you to cycle the tank is picking on the clown i got to cycle as well.... lol, i wanted to put it in the sump, should have.... think i should just get him out now whatever it takes to keep from having future problems? the clown goes to him like he is lonely, doesnt fight back just likes to sit there with him and he is territorial.... wish the maroon would live up to his rep and be very territorial with him..... i figured the clown would buly him bad... guess he doesnt havea reason too though.... maybe in the future when the tank matures and i get a nem he will defend it with his life and beat the damsel.... or should i just remove him now, the damsel? he has scuffed one of his fins up and i see on his side little spots where the damsel has got him. thanks, mike
 
Damsels are the devil in my opinion and in my experience only get worse with time. I'd definitely get rid of it before you have to work around corals to get him out. Of course, that's just my opinion...
 
+1 and won't Be able to put any other fish in your tank or maybe just a lionfish.

Well the damsel you have is not the one I brought. It is just a random one they grabbed from the tank in the confusion. :) My little guy was peaceful as can be. Also I never had a problem with any of the yellow tails I have had. Sounds like you need to take that one out... better now than later... at least it was free.
 
Fish personality's change along with the tank their In sometimes! Wonderful In one tank and the fish from h#ll In another. I'm trying to remove one of those myself.

Damsels are very territorial...so in large tanks they are less aggressive in my experience than in smaller tanks. I can easily believe that Mike's yellowtail got aggressive when moved out of the 125 into a smaller tank.
