new tank

I would add some of your current liverock right away so it can help filter the new tank.

Thanks. Should I go ahead and move the bulk of my current LR? Only concern is that a lot of it has coral on it. Should I just move all the current LR that is coral free?

Move what you want. If you have base rock that needs to go in first, put it in first.

Personally I would move it all including what has coral on it. Just make sure its the same salinity and temp.

I just went through the same process upgading from my 60 cube to my 90... i only had one fish death (zero SPS/invert/coral deaths) because it hid in a rock and fell out in a bucket with no water... if you want some help or need advice i would be glad to help. send me a pm

When I moved I would have done 3 things differently.
1. Had more pre-mixed SW on location
2. Transferred more of the old SW
3. Used more Smart Start sooner.

i agree with U4ick on the Dr. Tim's bacteria in a bottle. I used like 3 bottles of this to cycle my new rock... which took like 2 months.

To answer your question about the sump transfer, If you have rock in there. pull it all out and dip and shake it in a bucket of newly made saltwater... then put them in a bucket for immediate transfer. I would take the sump out and rinse the whole thing with a hose if you have one and then try to get as much of the crap out as you can.

When i moved i pulled each rock out 1 by 1 and then dunked them in a freshly made saltwater... i had a few buckets of this since the water got really dirty.

I used new sand that i had cycling for a few days with the new rock once i was able to move into the new apartment.

I would hilgly recommend having a reactor of gfo if you have a lot of SPS because my nutrients spiked crazy fast then i used GFO in the reactor .. basically all my SPS browned out but nothing died.

Before i moved i had 60 gallons of new salt and i ended up having to mix more because i ran out of it. So make as much salt as possible. i have an extra brute 32 gallon trash can if you need. i would additionally have as much fresh water as well just in case you need to make more salt water quickly.

after i transferred everything over i noticed that my LPS started looking really bad, i tested for ammonia and it was there so have a bottle of Prime because that detoxifies the water instantly. I also would test every day for ammonia and nitrite for the first week or so becasue u want zero traces... obviously... lol

Thanks for the tips.

One more question, where does everyone get there live sand from? I plan on transferring some of my current sand, but figured I should probably go ahead and get new sand, or would I be better off using all of my current sand? How much sand would you suggest I use for a 125 long?

I would highly recommend using new sand... you may have a diatom bloom but you can always fix it with snails. if you want something to "jumpstart" for a cycle, save yourself the risk and just get a bottle of Dr. tim's bacteria. you cant overdose it and all you do is put in a few drops of ammonia a day. you can also buy that ammonia in a little bottle from dr foster and smith. i think it is like 3 dollars. make sure not to overdose the ammonia though... lol i did that on accident and i my ammonia spiked to like 15 or something crazy.

LFS, or online, I think some members have some laying around.
-1 lb of sand per gallon

Thats a very general quote.

How much sand really depends on how deep you want. Some people go as deep as 3". Some people are purely decorative and only go about 1".

Not much to see right now, still needs about 50 more gallons of salt to be put it, just happy to finally get the plumbing done and finally no leaks.

Moved the sump out from the current 75 last night and will be giving it a good cleaning tonight and get it hooked up to the 125. All new sand is in place and a couple pieces of rock moved over. Picked up a new skimmer yesterday as well. I need to find some cheap live rock too, I'm sure the tank is going to look some what empty with only having the current LR that is in my 75

Hoping to add more saltwater to the tank tonight and get everything transferred this weekend!

Pictures once completed...
