New Tank

I cannot upload images. Can someone tell me how to change the format to what is accepted on RC.

I have a 45 gallon tank (36 x 12 x 24) and would like to get a good combo of fish and corals. Plenty of color is the goal.

In there now:

2 Percula Clown Fish
1 Small Yellow Tang
1 Leopard Wrasse
1 Lawnmower Blenny
6 Snails
2 Hermit Crabs

1 Anemone

2 other coral I just bought but forgot the names (I will post those later)

I am running a Magnum 350 Cannister Filter
1 air stone
about 60 lbs of Live Rock
2-3" of Live Sand

I would like to get a Protein Skimmer, but only have about $150.00 to spend.

I do not have a refugium either and I was thinking of getting one of those Hang On Back Refugiums with the protein skimmer built in.

Any suggestions on this?

Also, as far as fish, how many can I stock in a 45 gallon aquarium?

If it were my tank I would get rid of the Tang, wrasse and anemone. The tang and wrasse will outgrow this tank fairly quickly, and combining the anemone and corals will lead to problems with alleopathy.

For a skimmer I would try to find either a used Aqua-C remora or Bak Pak II.

If you remove the current fish you could add 2 or 3 smaller fish, however as currently stocked you are maxed in my opinion.

Looks good but do some changes:
1 lose the tang it is too big for a 45 even though it is small i'll still nervous about my tang in a 75
2 lose the airstone it is not necessary
3 a octopus HOB (hang on back) is about 150 shipped (model # bhf100f)
4 a HOB refugium is ok but a sump/refugium is preferred because you can have the refugium, skimmer, and all other stuff hidden in it than the tank

A better choice IMO would have been the AquaC Remora http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewItem.aspx?idproduct=ACRM

If you keep the Bak-Pak, I would upgrade the pump to a Maxi-Jet 900.

I agree with the two post above. I am not sure you can get a HOB skimmer and refugium to fit on the back of that tank. If you are looking to grow pods then maybe an in-tank refugium. If you are looking for phosphate control maybe a reactor. Just more ideas.

The setup has been established for a year and a half. This past Sunday the tank was given to me by a friend. I've added some live rock and a couple fish, cleaned everything and just purchased the skimmer. I am just about all set and ready to enjoy the tank.
