How does this look? The hard part is finding something that looks natural and appealing but also won't topple over.

are you going to have corals or just fish? the only reason i ask is it doesnt look like you have many places to place corals, otherwise i like it!

post some pics.
it may look a little silly now but that is better then lookin silly the whole mature life....

are you going to do sps?

I am going to do corals but I know absolutely nothing about corals. I would get the ones that require less light since I just have a 39 watt X 4 T5 unit + LED moonlights. And that was going to be setup on a timer to cycle the 2x10k, then 2xactinic, then moonlights for a day/night simulation.

Here is what I have now. More room for corals and lost the empty edges.

what size tank is that? 40b?

looks a lot better! you might want to add some element that breaks up the front area (i like to have at least one piece that comes out toward the front glass) and adds some depth. like if that center rock was moved a little more forward maybe. But it looks good to me either way. its really a matter of if YOU like it or not though!

I think it looks pretty awesome, man. The second one is definitely an improvement from the first one - especially if you are planning on adding coral

Second one looks waaaay better. I would personally take out the rocks at each end. That way you get better flow around the rocks and you can clean the glass. Maybe even add a smaller rock or two infront of your structure (space providing).

Personally, I like the first one way better. It will be easier for you to clearn the side viewing panels but if you don't mind algae growing on the side panels then the second would be fine.

I like the 2nd one, but if it were me I would angle the smaller rocks on the edge inwards (e.g. towards the front glass) in order to be able to clean the glass and give a little more uniqueness rather than just a straight line of rocks, but great start so far! what type of substrate is that?

And remember you don't HAVE to use all of the rock, I tried to cram all of my rock into my tank when I got it because I felt I was wasting them if they weren't in the tank... I finally decided to take ~30-40lbs out and keep it dry in a bucket for a different tank or a possible upgrade in the future. Gave it a much cleaner look and I couldn't be happier with my scape now.

I am going to play with those 2 edge pieces. I will need to clean the glass at some point. I might just shove them in the back somewhere just to have them. But I want to be able to get to as much substrate as possible to remove waste so I'll take a close look.

The substrate is a 40lb bag of aragonite and the remains of a bag of crushed coral/shell and aragonite that I had left over maybe 3 lbs.

The "tree" coral on the right is some of my "seed" rock that also has a lot of coraline so I need to keep that and a few other pieces.

When I bought my house it had a 120g tank built into the wall that had been stagnant with saltwater for close to 3 years. It was surprisingly clean though. I converted it to freshwater and put all this rock aside. So I have no idea where it originated from. But it is really nice rock. The cave on the left is bigger then a softball inside and the one on the right is almost that big. Very pourus with lots of voids and hiding spaces for the fishes!

I don't plan on getting any tank occupants at least until sometime in December and no fish until next year.
