new to anemones

hey everyone! Ive allways liked anemones, but just got my first one, a haitian condy anemone. I know they arent known to host clownfish, but as far as how it looks, they have been my favorite since I was 4 years old! As far as my clown fish hosting it, I have a mated pair that have hosted frogspawns! (and strangely the frogspawns didnt care, they were killed by my ex's user error long story short!), with this anemone, I have had it for about a week, and they keep getting close to check it out, but get chased away by my blue tang because its on his side of the tank. (Ill post a pic of my new aquascape soon) I was wondering how much, and what I should feed this thing, from what I have seen, alot! (I feed a cube of mysis or brine every other day, and ocean nutrition formula 2 in between., I feed it a cube of mysis every other day, and It also eats when I feed the fish!) With my experience with coral, the way it opens and colors up, it likes the ammount of light and current it gets, but how much and what should I feed this thing?

Condy's are pretty tough, IF you can get one that isn't bleached. Everyone has their own opinion as to how much to feed an anemone. IMHO, it would be very hard to over feed one. My feeding schedule has changed many times over the years, but for the past few months, I've been feeding my anemones every day. They do seem to be enjoying the extra groceries. Any marine meat will do. I like to change it up a bit. Fish, shrimp, squid................

If the clowns arent hosted by anything else yet, and seem to be interested in it dont be surprised if you get lucky and end up with them in it.

Ive had my condy and clowns for over 5 years now. Never feed him BUT its only becasue the clowns do it for me, or I would prolly have to.

Clownfish don't host anemones and they don't host in anemones (which doesn't even make sense). They are hosted by anemones (or surrogate hosts). Since you are new to anemones, this is the first lesson. From now on you will write it correctly and everyone will think you're super smart.
The real question is, how many people will write it incorrectly in subsequent posts in this thread.

This isn't a grammar issue. It's an issue of scientific terminology. Who the host is is important in alleviating confusion about the relationship. If more people used the correct terminology in the first place, the entire internet wouldn't be saturated with this misuse. It even showed up in an article in Advanced Aquarist and the author didn't know it was a mistake even when it was pointed out.

The only grammar issue is "host in" which isn't even proper English wrt to this relationship. The anemone may be "hosting in" the fish tank but the act of hosting is still the anemone; clowns don't "host in" them.

Posts like yours propagate the misuse of these terms in forums and BBs by tossing correct terminology aside. And don't mistake my frankness with rudeness. I'm not one to put a hundred smiley faces after a post.

ha... ive never paid to attention to that! but your right, and the terms are used everywhere regularly without most blinking an eyelid

ive kept condys before and they do like their food, though once a week feeding should be enough (saying that when i experimented with daily feeds, it never refused food) feeding once a week though will help with water quality,
If your system can take it, and the anemone is happy with it, then feeding a bit more should be ok. although they apparently dont naturally have clownfish living with them, have seen several cases of clowns going in them, and have had a pair of skunk clowns that almost immediatly jumped in one when i put it in the tank with them.

well, I have an 18 gallon fuge hooked up to a 30 gallon display, and a asm g4, feeding is not an issue for water quality!, Ive noticed it will eat anything it catches inclueing formula 2 flakes, I think I should get small shrimp or silversides for it, because I have been feeding it a cube of mysis every other day. It seems verry healthy, better than it was in the lfs, (but it was petco, so thats not supprizing!) Jupiter is right, I worded things wrong from a scientific standpoint, but I used the terminology everybody is used to, but he is right about the concept, if I was writing for a scientific journal, I would use the terminology he stated was right.
