Hey All,
I'm still in the building process of my tank and I got a test kit last week to use on my rock curing setup. I've been testing the water and I found that the kit is useful. I randomly tested my RO/DI water for ammonia and PH and compared the numbers to the water coming from the tank. The ammonia was at 0 ppm which was expected but the PH was at 7.6 or so when the water I grab from my curing rig is closer to 8.1-8.2.

Is this normal? I haven't tested freshly mixed salt water (which I think is a good idea) and I'm curios if this is usual Can someone let me know? Thanks in advance!!!

Joel

The pH of your DI water means nothing. Pure water has no buffering capacity, so the tiniest little thing throws the pH around. Once you add the salt, the pH will go to a value you're more used to seeing.
