New to clams got a few need advice

Hey all new to clams I picked up a couple 3 to be exact they are in a 35 gallon at the moment with stable calcium and alk with 250w metal halide and 4 36watt t5s I'm more of a nem guy so advice on these clams would be awesome I got a 7 inch blue maxima a 4 inch blue and green cerocea and a 2 inch dersea clam the dersea clam didn't a climate too good it's been a day already here's some pics

From my experience some clams may take a while to settle down. Based on water flow and lighting, they will move around trying to find a suitable home location. This is why most people will say to start all clams on the bottom until they fully open up their mantles. Giving them time to adjust to the water parameters. Then start moving up the more light demanding clams. Don't be surprised to find they do not like the location you picked for them and you find them in a different local every couple of days. You are probably used to that with your nems. Good luck

Thanks so much! The maxima and cerocea seem to open all the way I do feed microvert every couple of days for the sea apples when I received the maxima the bag broke during shipping and he was in no water! I wasn't able to acclimate him but he seems pretty good the small clam is the one that's worrying me he's open but not extending the mantle all the way one side is out a little the other doesn't come over the shell

have you tried burping them? sometimes they can get air bubbles trapped under their mantle that can irritate them, especially during shipping.

all burping is is picking the clam up gently, while still under water, and moving them around slowly, trying to let any air bubbles rise up and out through the intake siphon (large opening with the fingers). not at all dissimilar to how you would try to chase air bubbles out of swimming trunks.

Maybe I'll have to try that it's still only half extended so weird all others opens up nice

if you haven't already, it would also be well worth it to check them for pyramid snails.

they tend to hide under the clam around the area of the byssal opening during the day, and then venture out at night. you can check when you're burping them, and then maybe spot check again every other day or so for a few days if the mantle continues not to extend fully.

they're very small, about the size of the head of a pin, so they are easily missed.

After you've checked for pyramids, check for any nems that may be on the shell irritating the mantle. When you're 100% sure the clam is clean, pick what you think is the most suitable spot and leave it there as long as it stays upright. Try not to touch or disturb it, or let it be disturbed by tank mates. Feeding your tank heavier than usual would probably help as well but obviously don't over do it..

Okay thanks guys and the system does get regular water changes and is over 300 gallons of water volume and is regularly fed because there is a sea Apple tank attached to the system I'm gunna check for snails tonight
