Hello! Im new to this forum and just wanted to start a thread about the 150 gallon tank I am in the middle of building!

Just some back ground info...... I have had a 29 gallon FOWLR tank set up for about 2 years now with great success ( with you occasinal baddle with alge). I currently have 2 clowns one of which is hosting a BTA...... I also have a coral banded shrimp with a few very small peices of coral.
The equipment on the tank is a heater , HOB protein skimmer, fulval 405 cansiter filter and a In-tank 9W U.V sterlizer. The type of lighting I have is T5 H.O 2 bulb cora life fixture.

Now for the reason I started this thread...... I am currently building a 150 gallon reef tank ( I got tierd of the 29 being so small ) The tank is 48x24x30 so it is pretty deep but I got a awsome deal on it! I custom made the stand so that it would be big enough for all my "wet" equipment. I currently have a sump on order from truvuaquariums.com that should be here next week! (sump will hold about 40 Gallons) The protein skimmer is going to be reef octopuss sx 200. I just ordered today a dual GFO and carbon reactor from bulk reef supply. As far as flow goes I'll be ordering 2 vortech mp 40's and some nano pumps(for the hard to reach places)...... my lighting setup I think im going with is the 48" outer orbit HQI 2-250W and 4- 54W with 9 white and blue moon lights. The lights, heater and pumps are going to be put onto a Reef keeper pro Net aquarium controller so I can see what is going on with my levels when I am not home. Also My pumps, Return pump and skimmer will be going on a API battery back-up so if I loose power water will still flow! I look foward to sharing this with all of you and please all suggestions and critisim is more than welcome!

Awesome, i have a 150 with a 40 gal breeder as a sump, i am really liking the setup as im sure you will also. Lots of room for stuff in it :) Looking forward to seeing your build.

Welcome! Sounds like you've done your homework. Where on L.I are you from? If you haven't already, you should check out our reef club forum here, Long Island Reef Association.

#1 on the sunlight issues, it can be a real problem.
