new to mantis questions

hey guys over the past month i have been reading,watching,researching about mantis shrimp. so that got me thinking.... y dont i set up a tank for one! i have a 20gallon glass tank and i have a 14gallon biocube sitting in the garage. i hear that they can break through glass but idk kinda dosent seem like they can lol . n e ways heres an idea tell me what u think



20gallon long all glass aquarium
2-3 hydrokorilas
6 inch sand bed
as much lr as i need
pc lighing
a hob filter

tell me what u guys think as i am a complete noob to mantis shrimp

What type of mantis do you want? You'll likely find that peacocks are th only species really known for breaking glass and there are only 3-4 common in the market capable at adult sizes. It is pretty rare. Look at Roy's list (sticky) and look at a few ones. Peacocks are O. scyllarus. For a 20 I'd recommend P. ciliata (very color variable, sometimes bright yellow or orange. An active spearer), O. havenensis (very interactive, but also very sensitive. Can be killed very easily, and a few times just by stirring sand. Also only lives 2-3 years from birth), and O. scyllarus (up to 7", active, interactive, colorful, more sensitive than some, but still pretty hardy)

If you have any specific questions please ask, and check out the stomatopod.com forum. Some good articles and advice there. That setup looks good for most species but it depends. Should be good for any I mentioned and all but large spearers and H. californiensis.

i would like to keep a peacock. i am located in tampa so it shouldnt be hard to get one as i know of a store that carries them. i will look at stomapod.com thankyou for your help
