Skunk Hybrid Freak
Here's the new bugger in quarrantine. He's about 2".
A big thanks to the seller and also to the person who tipped me off on the sale. You know who you are.

Not in the immediate future.

Yes. I know the risks and plan to monitor it closely and put three other factors in place that will reduce the possibility of aggression.

If you dont put them together relatively soon do you not run the risk of the lone clown becoming a dominant female..?

Could always try a larger skunk clown (or really any other species) with the lone thiellei to try keeping it subdominant.

Dan beat me to the punch. That is what I have done in the past. In fact I did this with both my leucokranos and my thielleis when I didn't have a mate for them. In the case of the leucokranos, I wound up getting a female more than a year later and they paired up without any major glitches.
With my first thiellei, I kept it with a 14 year old A. ocellaris female among others. At one point it was with five or six A. leucokranos, an A. ocellaris and I think a sandaracinos clown. I wound up getting a smaller specamin and they paired up nicely.

Just so nobody gets the wrong idea, I do not advise others to do this unless they have a lot of experience with clowns and know if and when to separate them.

Nice new addition Walt....! :fish1:

If he is picked on too much, I know someone with a vacant room(tank) that would be happy to accept a single A.Thiellei.

I don't know how you have such luck with finding the fish I'm in serach of and I look at the worst time.

Bet of luck with the group!

Let's just say I'm always poised to buy and am not too shy on high prices. My ex wife once told me "the fish go, or I go."

Marina, I haven't had a display I was proud of in a few years but when I do, I'd love to have you come by and check it out. I don't know when it will be but it will be a clown lover's dream.

Picture a 180 gallon reef covered in various BTAs and about 100 neuter A. ocellaris with the three A. thiellei as the centerpiece.

Nice pun, I hope it's not true:D. As for prices, I've found in my middle age you get what your willing to give your first born for. I have the roll of cash, just not the opportunity.... Ahh well....you know where I'm at if you ever want an aquarium break.

You sure your not describing Mobert's tank with the addition of 3 A Thiellei clowns....?

DeathWish, Yes something like that. I've never seen that particular tank. The inspiration is the 2000 gallon anemone reef at the Atlantis Aquarium in Riverhead NY among others. I like the pics of Melevs reef as well.

Dan, I don't miss her any more but I did for a while.

nice fish Walt. I have ones of your Leucs. its about 2" or so. I bought it from a guy in reading who was moving some fish to downsize.

Thanks! A. thiellei is my favorite "species." I've sold two pairs of leucs and three others that I don't really remember whom where or in what quantities they went off the top of my head. The largest pair (my favorite) went to a store in New England the second (the best overall from a specimen and pairing aspect) to went to copps (see his TOTM thread) and that's all I recall.

Oh I know! That would have been Peppe. He's a veterinarian and would have had a Cuban accent. He's a good guy.

So Walt you want to be the first to breed the A. Thiellei? Yes, I get around on the forums. You have to when your surfing for uber-rare specimens and peeps like WALT sneak the best out the door undetected...

Enough kidding around, but if you do ever make it to meta I would be interested in a couple of the first batch. You mention that A. sandaracinos X A. perideriaon is more rare than A. Thiellei. Why so? It seems that this mix would have been exhausted since these two fish are so readily available in the hobby. Your making me dread ever getting rid of my A. perideriaon pair. Five year with me and 3.5 with my buddy and no spawn to date. Your thought of that mix is making my trigger finger twitchy on a pair to try some genetic manipulation......

Too many complexes I enjoy and not nearly enough tanks to house these guys. Just wish there were more Tomato hybrid patterns and enthusiasts out there, as it seems I the lone ranger on the playing field.

If you can find spawning pairs of A. perideriaon and A. sandaracinos, I would absolutely swap out the males and see what happens. I think finwing's fish is one of the coolest things I've ever seen and would love to see them on the market.

As for me succeeding, I would definately push some out the door to some serious collectors but not on the first batch. If I had raging success, I would have to try breeding the babies. If I got good numbers off the first batch, the less desirable ones would be photographed and documented before being culled and the better stock that I didn't have room for would be donated to a couple breeder friends of mine.... So, be nice to me and keep your fingers crossed and you may get them for free! :p
