new to pvc plumbing

Realistically everywhere there is s connection of pipe to a fitting.
Especially one that is under pressure like the return line.
The drain lines are not under pressure, but should be glued too as a precaution.

Just don't glue threaded fittings and don't use Teflon tape on threaded fittings. Use food safe pipe dope instead. I use Oatey Great White with PTFE for all my threaded fittings but there are other pipe dope options that you can find at the local plumbing supply or home depot that will work fine. And don't over tighten the fittings. Apply a liberal amount of pipe dope to the male threads so that all the threads are filled in level with the highest part of the thread. Then tighten them a little past hand tight.

I needed this advice, thanks a ton

Oatey Great White with PTFE ---this is still tape? oh its a compound ok lol i googled it

The only time I recommend not gluing a slip fitting is when its inside an overflow box to allow adjustment now or in the future.. and since its got water on both sides of the fitting a leak is just not a leak..

Anytime there is water on one side and air on the other then you glue as a leak IS a leak..

And yes... Use non-hardening thread sealant specifically intended for PVC on threaded connections..
Teflon tape is for metallic (metal) fittings only..
