Just wanted to say Hi,
Started to setup our 240lt tank about 4 months ago, tank size 1000mm long x 400mm deep x 600mm high, we are running a 1000lt canister filter and a skimmer. got our first H.Reidi's 2 weeks ago and they are doing great. We get our own sea water and pass it through a 5um filter and a UV.
Guess I just wanted to say Hi

Hi!!!

=) Welcome to RC!!!

I wish I lived in Austrailia! I would have a kangaroo! (Although I do hear they can be quite mean!) lol

That is pretty neat that you use seawater, I am assuming you live on the beach then because otherwise lugging water would not be an easy task.

How far do you go out to collect? I hear the closer to the shore, the more pollution...maybe just in the good old USA though...

Yea, the young ones make good pets, then they get older get out and eat all the roses, make a mess of all the gardens. Had one when I was a kid, a male and he got mean and started boxing, gave me a hiding once or twice.. They need a lot of room to be happy...
Started getting seawater last week, was mixing but had issues with the tap water here. and due to water restriction a RO unit was a no go, due to the amount of water wasted.
Only takes me 30min to drive to the beach, fill the 100lt drum ( food grade plastic ). go for a dive or swim and come home, all up about 2 1/2 to 3 hours, its a good little outing.

Bennets wallabies make better pets. They are smaller and can be bought here in the U.S. for about 5000 (baby) if I remember right (probly like dogs in Australia though lol  ).

Pretty neat, have you tested the water at all for any type of contamination (I am jst curious!)

That rocks. But I dount custom officials would miss a kangaroo coming in cargo, otherwise, I would give you my fed-ex number! lol....

I did see a newer ro unit that made no waste water. Yup, no waste water. I cannot for the life of me remeber where I saw it or how much it was......

How are your reidi's adjusting to their new home?

I think you are referring to a Kati Ani system. Kati Ani does purify water without wasting any, but it does require regeration chemicals that are fairly hazardous and they are pretty expensive. But, it can theoretically be regenerated indefinately and the byproducts of regeneration can be mixed together to form ecologically safe waste. A search of Kati Ani on any of the major reefing forums should bring up a good amount of info/discussion.

Water testing is done in the area by the health department. We have a number of Mussel farms in our location, and the Mussels are also tested, my understanding is as Mussels feed any pollution in the water will build up in the Mussel and show up in the testing. So now you got me thinking about running a carbon filter in the water holding drum......
The Roo's... We have plenty, to many, so if you really want one i'm sure that could be arranged. We are one of the few countries that eat the animals on our national emblem. We farm Emu's and cull Roo's when the population has outgrown what the land can sustain. I can go into more detail if you like.
The Reidi's are doing very well and have settled nicely, they are CB from Seahorse Sanctuary, They have been pigging out on all the live food in the tank and getting frozen Mysis, putting on weight nicely. well post some photo's once I work out how, lol

Peter,
Don't bother testing any further, nor bother with carbon.

Mussels are tested regularly as they are for human consumption, and as they are filter feeders, they cop the lot, any bad they get, if its safe for humans, its safe for horses.

Hi David, small world! I was talking to a old mate that own one of the farms and he gave me the good oil on where to go for the water.
