I am setting a 180 up for salt and would like to buy about 200lbs of uncured live rock.Does anyone recommend a distributor? How about a certain local of rock? What is the best type of salt to use?Thank you all in advance.

I was reading the other day that "Instant Ocean" is the most used salt out of those who have been selected as tank of the month here on reef central.

Most of my rock is from fiji, but I just got a piece today that is amazing, it is all branched and looks cool. Maybe get some stuff like that aswell as fiji live rock for a base.

Shipping was cheap but I only live 4 hours from Indy so I opted for the 2 day ground(got here in only 1 day) which cost around $20. Since you live in NY it might cost a little more.

i use Red Sea in my pond...works great fast disolving
live rock- the cheapest i have found is 2.50 ish after shipping charges...look around on these forums people are always selling live rock for cheap too

If you're going for 200lbs, I'd go with 50 lbs live and 150lbs base rock. It will take a while (six months or so...) to become all live, but its much cheaper and interesting to watch.

Remember to make sure you have a place to cure out that 200 lbs. Not sure if you ever cured rock or smelt rock curing, but it will stink you out of the house. You are going to need to cure it for awhile, so as coast stated, sometimes better getting some cured from a fellow reefer.

In regards to places to buy rock, there are so many you just need to look around on here. People always posting about rock.

It is best to get different types of rock so that when you aquascape it, you can have some flat and branch and large pieces around.

In addition, are you going BB or DSB.

I was going to cure it in the tank.Do a 50% wc every 4-5 days or as needed until it cycles.Do the wc sound ok?I am going with a sand bottom.I appreciate all the help.Thank you all for the info
