New to the hobby - First batch of water?

Hello guys,

I am new to the hobby. I have already started to gather ell the equipment and stuff. Only missing the most important part...the tank. Unfortunately is being shipped from Texas and they have now bigger issues than make me happy so it's been delayed two weeks.

Anyways, here is the questions. Would you use a LFS water to do your first fill up? I know I'll have to end up buying a RODI System but I have some negotiations to do with the wife first. I am weighting my options.

If LFS is an option, which one in Miami would you use? I know the ones in Bird Rd are famous but would like specific recommendations from the experts (you).

Any decent one in Hialeah or nearby? I live north of Miami Lakes.

Thanks!

If you are using dry rock or plan on filling before placing rock you can mix the salt and water directly in the tank. Another option.

Thank you rovster. I will use a mix. Most of my rock will be dry (about 50 pounds) and a few more pounds of live rock from an online retailer. I may have to put those in with a filled tank to avoid having them out of water.

My plans (again, I'm a newbie so I may be wrong) is to setup the base rock on a dry tank for an easier aquascaping.

That's what o did once filled I added some live rock to seed. Keep in mind it will take 3 times as long for tank to stabilize and rocks to be good with dry. Count on 6-8 months of ugly tank syndrome, at least that's what I observed. Good luck!

You are almost better off investing in a good Ro/DI filter and making your own water, not to mention that if you try to fill 95 gal of water from 5gal buckets it's going to be long and painful, you will need the Ro/di filter for the rest of your life in this hobby to replace your water evaporation which will be about 1-2 gals a day plus if you leave the hobby you can always use it for drinking water filter
